I've built a hand in another model (Zbrush, zspheres very cool new feature), and I've imported it into C4d and want to detail it. The finger nails to be specific. I thought the easiest way would be to draw a curve, project it, which i managed and then trim..Can that be done?..I did the project, got the curve to the surface and now i'm stuck. Basically this could be a general question. If i just highlight the polys, it's going to give me a very jaggy Fingernail. The only other way I can figure out how to do it, Is build a finger nail off the curve I've laid on the surface and use that as a completely seperate object and adjust the hand mesh to that..Then of course would be my next question, can I use an object like that as a boolean to cut out the polys...This is all very easy in Rhino but since I'm using a poly mesh, i'm kinda stuck.

why not extrude and the use hypernurbs.

Better yet, why not texture it in ZBrush? Isn't one of the strengths of that program its 3D painting and automatic UV mapping?

I tried that Kaiskai but i didn't get great results. (Digging out Arndt's book,,,Again) I'm going to again try that..If I can't do it, I'm sending the mesh to you and letting you have a go at it. I mean you're just a student, Plenty of free time...:D...as far as texturing it in Zbrush, Yep that is one way. Zbrush does a couple of things very cool. It uses Alpha channel masks (I think). Sort of lay the mask on and pull the model through it, but everything always looks all roundie, or so I've seen. A more interesting thing for Zbrush that is soon to come out is a way of painting in real time Displacement maps...The detailing is amazing with it from what I've seen....But, since I'm a Rhino kind a guy, I still like having the basic model complete. Probably because somewhere in the back of my mind I know that CNC routers can't read displacement maps. That said, I just got the dang program so give me a week and I might comeback and decide, Screw modeling, Displacement maps for everything:hmm:
