View Full Version : Processors
I am looking at getting a custom PC built soon, and I am probably going to go with AMD 2200 dual for processors, but I might be able to stretch to Xenon 2.8 duals,so my question is would spending an extra arm and a leg to go with Xenon 2.8 as opposed to AMD be worth the amount of processing gain?,or would the difference be minimal...its for use with C4D :)
Thanks.

there is a hell of a cost difference.
i would say if you gonna get a m'board/chipset for intels (860chipset i think) that supports Hyper-Threading technology and you would see the benefit in c4d then thats what you want. However i'm not sure Hyper-Threading will provide performance improvements seen with lightwave or max. But Athlons rock...hopefully someone who has seen both systems side by side can let us know their thoughts.
Thanks :)
Ya about half again flingster :) ....I have a budget of about 3000 US for the machine, but if AMD is gonna be just as good I would be happy to save some cash

I'd go with the athlon XP's and use the money for like a second display and great graphics card
Hi,
Cinema 4D R8 is one of the very few applications that will realy use Hyperthreading. The maximum speedup however is ca. 10% and only with XP Pro. WIth Win 2K there will be no difference.

Thanks
AMD is going to get the thumbs up I think :)

Its all gobildeegook to me but let us know what you get and how well it works. My G3 just isn't quite cuttin it any more so I might be shopping for a new comp soon meself, with a limited budget.:hmm:
I am a Mac boy Matty :)
I am hoping to get an 867 dual G4 for using with C4D and use the PC for rendering.Because of my medical condition {neurological} I am not in a position to be learning a whole new OS,it would just confuse the hell out of me....XL8 is gonna be bad enough, plus trying to hang onto what I already know about 7.....hahahahaa.....Maybe I could be a politician, then no one would notice

I just upped my main machine to a dual 867 and i too will get a pc for rendering... and i can thouroghly recomend the experience... i also put in a g-force 4 ti graphics card which if you can afford it does help a lot. in the end i aim to use this machine for my compositing and working on stuff, and get a few cheap pc's for rendering with. i also got an airport system which is working very well... although it's currently interfered with by my wireless phone :( but not too much at least. however it will mean i can just add pc's and not have to have them close to where i work, so some cupboard somewhere would be ideal :) of course that's some way in the future, as now i just have to deal with the debt from buying this machine! but at least with c4d i'm seeing there are several people out there who are doing the same.
I am going to see if I can afford an ATI 9000 pro like that which comes with the dual ghz model mdme_Sadie for the 867 {depends on my loan though}.See there are rumours {just rumours} that the G5 could have Intel or AMD processors :) ,to that I say brilliant
On a totally ot subject I have ordered a new digi camera,a Kodak of all things 4 mpix for about 500 US or there abouts...I couldnt believe it,4 is usually well real expensive and then some :)
