View Full Version : Twisted Sport - Charact/Enviro - AptPupil - Just try and Guess Mine!!!

Apt Pupil
10-06-2002, 07:40 PM
Some of you might have noticed that I deleted my previous thread, well, yup, I did just so I could do this (just for you top markmen annoying guessers out there) heheheh

Instead of showing less, I decided to show more. Three of the following images will be used and then modeled into my final composition. Then one or all three from this selection of three might then be mass duplicated to further fill my scene. It's up to you to guess which three will be the bases for my entry. So just try and guess what I am up Too!!! I DARE you!!!

Beware, I don't usually use a model sheet to model from, so even one of the sketches could be the one heheh

Here is the scene in question:

Well Apt.....glad to have you back.

I would quess or hope for the Dragon rider, archer, and catapult..........Any of your fine sketches brought into 3D however will be very nice to see.High walls =the need for catapults, archers are needed for taking out guards patrolling the high walls. And the Dragon rider and dragon are needed for the high fly by shots and for the overall coolness of it all.;)

Looks great get going....................By the way if you check my thread out you will notice I up-graded to Quad Steam engines..............you pushed me over the edge with your suggestion...............Stay cool.................

C'mon, you've got time!

I don't have any doubt: the second one !
But It's unfair you don't think about this short list: fire truck-catapult and clown :)
Whatever I'm very exited by your sport !

Oh, I forgot to mention, before, I had no doubt that I would finish my entry, however, just recently, I have gotten . . .

Employed:bounce: :bounce: (by a gaming studio:) ) It was rather sudden actually, they phoned me Friday and said come in Monday:)

So this, uhmmm . . . might effect my progress here a bit.

Rot --> heheheh, yes, that could have been an interesting combo.

Erilaz ---> All . . . in two weeks, I am not that fast . . . yet:)

Virtuoso --> Hey there, yup, I noticed the quad engine, yours is coming along exquisitly. As for what I am up to, maybe, just maybe, your right:p

Take care guys, I will try and work on mine tonight, when I get back from . . . work.

Until then,

wow! when I saw all those pictures I thought for myself,
"man, he has really putted himself in a _hard_ situation(again).. who can model 3 characters _and_ an enviroment like that in about 2weeks, and in the end come out of it alive?"
the closest answer I could come up with was "apt pupil" :)

_but_
then on top of it all I saw that you just got employed, CONGRATULATIONS! :applause:

so, if you now take yourself through this challenge as you've planned, and work at the gamestudio at the same time.. you will be my hero forever :D ;)

great work, and I hope you'll have a nice time at work,
take care

 Thanks guys. It was a tough day, I came home, and . . . fell dead:argh: This is not a good sign. The way I see it, I will be modeling like a fanatic this weekend. However, I am not sure if it's a full time job, I am just there for one project right now. But. .. it is a step in the right direction:)

Virtuoso --> Nope, it's not Ubi Soft. It's a very small company by the name of 4 Elements. It's kind of the ideal environment for a person like me because I get to try my hand at everything. It should be alot of fun.

Erilaz --> Thanks Erilaz:love:

-OZ- --> Hey, thanks buddy. I hope to have more soon. And I hope to see more from . . . you soon. You have always been one of my role models here. Yours is certainly coming along nicely.

mebamonster --> Thanks, I am so happy, I can almost . . . . *drops dead* *wakes up* oops  Thanks heheh

fellah --> Thanks man. I had better start saving my energy for those last few days next week heheh I predict, it's going to be . . . extremely hectic.

Well, thanks guys, hopefully, I will have something that looks like . . . 3d soon;)

Take care ~

Hey Apt Pupil, you sound like I feel! :hmm:

Sooooo tired.

Best thing for it is to put on the kettle, then drink a copious amount of tea. Always works for me.:D

Just try not to fall asleep at the computer. Your head propped against the keyboard may give your scene a Salvadore Dali look.

I WISH YOU NEVER GOT THE JOB!

I started working on it a bit. I am building it up bit by bit. Here, I have blocked in the items somewhat with basic shapes and I also tested a few things to see how I should approach this project. But, I think I forgot to tell you, my scene will take place during the night, and . . . well, you will see heheh Happy, happy fun fun

levin --> I wouldn't worry about my job, as I said it's temporary. It's a tiny step. So most likely, you will be seeing this scene and maybe . .. maybe the full environment scene(for my enviro entry) in the finals :)

Geta-Ve --> Hey there, thanks:love: I still have much to learn though, so me, I wouldn't say that I am that good;) As for you, anybody in the world can join:) So, maybe I'll be seeing you around.

Erilaz --> heheh, yup, I am starting to get used to the daylight hours. But I miss the night hours, it was so . . . . peaceful, it made it easy to concentrate. But if I fall asleep at my computer, I'll be sure to sleep on my wacom tablet, it's more comfortable heheh

Hey apt...you strike again!!

Man....youŽre a master genius....:surprised :surprised :surprised

That concepts are all yours from scratch? Not even looking poses or nothing?

iŽm scared!!! That translation into 3d its also masterful.

Hey thanks nowhereman, it's always nice to hear from you again:) As for the concept, well, they are nothing I am proud of, I did them quickly just for fun. Otherwise, I draw from my mind, unless, I am trying for something realistic, then I use references.

Just a small update, I am still working on the towers, this will take awhile:sad: But, I changed my shot into a portrait picture rather than the landscape image I showed just prior and in my sketch. It kind of makes more sense this way, and I find it amplifies my image's sense of depth.

fellah
10-13-2002, 11:28 AM
oh, so you still have time/feel to work on the challenge project, great! how's it going at work, is it fun or just hard work?

it's very early so I don't wan't to give to many ideas/crits. but I think you can make the FOV a bit smaller to give it a more dramatic view(as in your concept) and get away with the "miniature" look.
also what about reducing the number of stones from the towers and leave just a couple(like disney has in all their old movies)

only ideas to free your mind :)
take care

Nice. Very nice indeed.

I love the fade-off of the stones in the courtyard. Nice worn look.

I'm not so sure about the tower stones though. I think they're too smooth and shiny. I suppose that'll come out in the texturing though.

Keep that detail coming. I'm going to love to see you pull off the characters in time! (Not that I don't have faith in you!):D

Apt Pupil
10-16-2002, 01:49 AM
Fellah --> How's the job going? Ok, it was fun, however, I am now on leave until they get more modeling projects, so now, I have a little bit of time to work on this contest (and another one too somewhere) However, with 3 characters from scratch, an audience and then some special effects left to go, I might be cutting it a bit close for 5 days:p As for the camera angle and FoV, I will probably play around with that once everything is in. And the stones, hmmm, 'less' .. . perhaps, I will have to check that out. Thanks.

mebamonster --> Sit out, are you kidding?? I never give up, never surrender!!! (probably, until my bitter demise this time around:p)

Erilaz --> Hey thanks. Those stones do seem somewhat shiny and new, I'll definatly have to fix that.

I would like to see what you are able to create given some decent time.
A suggestion. Add a line of flags hanging infront of the viewer. Wich could lend even more depth to your already promising wide angle shoot.

Virtuoso
10-16-2002, 08:24 PM
Beautiful ambiance, beautiful set piece. I really love the whole premise you have created Apt...........I just cannot escape the thought of what you and I could create as a tandem if let loose..................Maybe someday.................

Looking forward as always to your stellar creations to progress.............

Apt Pupil
10-17-2002, 02:23 AM
Virtuoso --> You and I, that . . . would be . . . scary:) However, actually, I am currently teamed up with somebody in another contest:p

Mikael P. --> If I didn't already know what's coming in next, I would definatly be tempted to follow your advice:p Don't worry, there will be enough to suggest height in the end.

Well, I might as well reveal the thing that I started working on today (Wednesday). Here is her in progress:

Apt Pupil

I am now working on the body and soon I will unwrap a few pieces for texturing. She'll be finished tomorow (including rigging).

Well, until tomorow:) ~

:wavey:

Apt Pupil
10-17-2002, 06:38 AM
Well, that's it for today. Here is where I am so far with her. The ponytail is still missing, but there is a reason:) Otherwise, she was done a bit quickly so I am unsure if her proportions are moderatly correct. She is not meant to be realistic, but still . . .

. . . if you notice anything wierd about her figure, please tell me

Thanks. I will fix her a bit more tomorow, and unless I hear otherwise, I will start tearing her apart for texturing.

say-g --> Of course I know what I am . . . doing. . . I think. . . no, I know, I really do know:p

Roach[MXF] --> Thanks, 3d is fun isn't it:)

Mikael P. --> "Are shaders included in my timeline?" Yes, just a bit. I am not very fameliar with shaders, so, it will be an expirement of sorts:p

Virtuoso --> What are you doing here? I want to go over to your thread and finally find your final result. I can't wait to see everything together, it's going to be awesome!! Otherwise, I am happy you like mine:)

Well, she is almost finished. I finished lightly mapping her so that I can apply masks and bumps maps. So now, I am going to rig her, and then start on one of the two remaining things to be added to my scene.

Contest is almost over, and there are quite a few fantastic entries . . . it's going to be great to finally see what people were up too.

Thanks fellah and mebamonster;) Meb, yup, I got rid of the vines, I might put them back in in the end to get some color in the pic, but I will have to wait and see how all the figures will look in with their colors.

Well, After two days, the Princess is more or less finished. I will probably change her color, depends on how she looks in the scene. She's lightly rigged for general posing, but she won't be doing any acrobatics any time soon:p

Ahhh.... once again, a beautiful piece of work. Not as good as your last two, I must admit, but incredible for the time you did it in. Really incredible.
