painting practice: Rurouni Kenshin

I find it amazing that you can produce a painting entirely with a computer. You seem to know what you're doing - can you run me through your workflow? :cool:

Thanks, it's the Samurai X guy alright.

As for my workflow:

First I blocked in the rough shapes. Then I blocked in the shadows and highlites.
Then it's a matter of refining the shapes you already have and adding more detail.
I have still a lot to learn though.

What I find helping is adding a simple background (If you haven't painted a true one yet) to set the mood. Just a two color gradient or some colored blotches will work.

Now about the painting, its awesome so far. i really like the detail in the scabbard and the folds in the clothing. the scar however looks kinda odd. It should be thinner and have more color to it, take a look at the pic from the link above. Great painting though so far and keep up the good work

a little update. altered the hair and scar a little.

I flipped it back the way it should be. Forgot to flip it back the last time. I personally like the first composition better, but then I'd have to redo the sword and scabbard, so I'll leave it this way.
