View Full Version : wireless connections - conflicting signals?

Okay, this is getting frustrating. Everything will start fine; I'll have a "great" or "very good" signal established, and be enjoying my wireless about as much as one can enjoy such a thing. Then, the connection begins to stall, and quickly drops out. This is about the point where the "one or more connections is available" message in the lower right pops up.
I don't get it. I've gone into the advanced options for the signals and set everything up so that my wireless card should only be connecting to the signals I tell it to. I've tried moving the signal I'm wanting to connect to the top of the list, to give it top priority. But it seems that once my computer has picked up on these other signals, it completely refuses to connect to the signal I want (or any signal, really), no matter how good the strength of the signal is. I've been getting this problem all the time, on a wide variety of networks. But as long as there's just one connection available, everything seems to go just fine.
It wouldn't just be a matter of conflicting signals, making it impossible to establish a solid connection, would it? It seems like this would be more software-based than anything else, no?
A google search turned up a post from someone suggesting that if I was using 3rd party software, the "wireless zero configuration" service might be conflicting with that. But I don't even have any 3rd party software installed. Tried it at one point, but I couldn't get my campus connection working through the 3rd party network management software, so I'm sticking with the windows management. Beyond that, I haven't been able to find a lot of info on this.

Anyone had to deal with this problem? Any ideas on how I might fix it (if it can be fixed)?

Oh, and my (relavent) specs:
XP home
Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 BG (on-board)
