View Full Version : Export referenced data
sternio 04-28-2005, 05:14 AM Hi all, I am having a bit of a crisis here. I have a scene animated, and It seems that for some reason the Render Globals panel wants to come up blank. Normally the way I handle this problem is to export everything into the scene, and open a new one and iport everything. The problem here is that I am using references, and when I import into the new scene it actually imports the real deal, not the references.
Is there a way to export scene data and keep the links to your references intact?

If you're talking about keyframe data,,, then yes. Load the animExport Plugin from the plugin manager. then select the top node of your character hirerarchy... go to export selection.. then choose the animExport option... use the Hirerarchy "Below" option. Basically that will export out all your keys on all or your controllers below that main node, and make them a data file. The just import them back onto the controller that you exported off of. (using animImport option in import options.)

Maya's Import/Export option box has a "Preserve Reference" attribute which will do exactly what you're asking. If you export a referenced object with this checked, the new file will still contain a reference to that file. If you then import that scene into another scene with this option checked, it will bring in all references without fully importing.
