View Full Version : Three tarot cards
Vrine 10-05-2002, 04:10 PM Hello everyone! This was a project I did for school, we had to do three tarot cards. I'm curious to know what you guys think of them, so please give any crits or comments.

Looks good, nice and simple with it's own originality.
I would just suggest taking out the text.
The pictures are obvious enough so they're not necessairy.

I don't know about that Jeroentje... It would seem to me that they wouldn't be proper tarot cards without the text, since not all cards are so obvious. Then again, they may not be proper tarot cards without the numbers either...
By the way, is anyone here aware of the *awesome* tarot card designs by Juan Gimenez?

I know nothing about tarot.
The only thing is: everyone can see that it is a moon/sun/star... why write it down aswell?

Because there's a dozen other cards that don't make quite as much sense as these. Hence the (consitant) text.

Thanks for the comments! I think I will keep the text because if I eventually make the other ones the text might be needed to know what they are...
What I want to know is do you think they fit well together? Its because I had a comment on how the moon card didn't fit as well because there was more empty space around it than the others.

I think they are fitting together quite nicely
Wouldn't worry about that, they look fine.
Great work. i have also though on doing a tarot card.
But all of them, for my love.
The text should remain, because cards are different if they are upside down or correct, a moon and sun can be hard to see which way they are on. Numbers would be good also.
here is a site with images on different styles within tarot, old
and new ones. Sorry but the text is in swedish.

Okay, I understand about the concistancy, that's a good point. Concistancy is important for things like these.
But I am wondering, when you're simplifying (sp?) anyway, if it wouldn't make a very interesting challenge to make the other cards more obvious, so they can do without text aswell.

That would be quite (sp?) a challenge! I think it would be hard to simplify and yet make it clear that a card is "the Empress" and not "the High Priestress" or vice versa... But like I said, what a challenge!
Then again the question of knowing which side is up or down is also important and what better way to show it then with text. Or I could show it with the composition of the image.
As for numbers, I wasn't sure all cards had numbers.... I thought it was only the sword, the pentacles, the cups, and the wands.

seems to me most Tarot cards are longer than that. I would look into dimensions of tarot cards perhaps. Second thing is the sun text is hard to read all being one central focus, i would try to target them in the same area of the card as well the moon and star are pretty even but the sun is much higher on the card. Lastly I tink the negative space in the upper left corner is the only issue on the moon card. those nice light strokes you have you could easily have two or three passthrough that space to slose it in.
