Title: Children's Book Images, Koryh (3D)
Software: LightWave 3D, Photoshop
A fun project that I would love to continue some day.
Hopefully if I ever were to work on it again I would make it better.
That said, It was one of the first 3D things I really ever finished. Not Bad?
02-15-2002, 01:59 AM
Good work, really great images.
02-15-2002, 03:11 AM

02-15-2002, 04:31 AM
Really nice. They have a lot of color and life. Great stills. It would be nice to see them animated. But good job. Those are first rate.
02-15-2002, 04:45 AM
You definitly have that "artist's eye"! These images really set a mood in each one. Keep the pictures coming!
02-15-2002, 04:49 AM
Cool  those image are beautiful, I really like the lighting on the first 2 image.
I'd love to work on a project like this one....:D
children's book.... I use to love those stories with nice drawings when I was young :)
I really feel like a kid looking at your work...
argghhh!! now I'm nostalgic :(
I guess it means you did a good job ;)
great work !
02-15-2002, 07:53 AM
What can I say that hasn't been said? Excellent work. Good luck on the project.
02-15-2002, 08:13 AM
Impressive...so much life in the images, just stand out :)
02-15-2002, 08:29 AM
These illustrations would definitely captivate the imagination of young children. Great sense of depth and lighting. In fact, I was immediately reminded of my old View-Master stereoscope and slides that I had gazed through for hours on end. The "live bait" scene, especially.
02-15-2002, 09:04 AM
really lovely work
02-15-2002, 09:23 AM

02-15-2002, 07:17 PM

02-15-2002, 07:33 PM
These are absolutely incredible! I wish I'd had book with artwork when I was a kid! These are really awesome, KOryH. Superb. I'd love to see some more (and I'm sure everyone else would too!) :D

02-19-2002, 04:32 AM
KOryH you did it my friend ;) this is something I wanted to do with my fiancee for some time now, but never got to it... beautiful work all around... you and your wife are a dynamite duo...
I gave you a 5 star rating ;)
02-19-2002, 04:36 AM
really great work!!
Is your wife working with 3d ? she got a sister ?
02-19-2002, 04:55 AM
Just absolutely beautiful images! I find myself just staring and mesmerized by these images! Especially the last one with the little girl sled riding. I don't know how to explain it - but you just really captured the essence of that dog too - that is a perfect pose and attitude for him in that image.
Like all the others - I can't wait to see more!:D I hope you keep us all updated on the project.
. . . Kim
02-19-2002, 06:36 AM

Excellent work there - That little sig on the car's liscence plate is a fine touch.
02-20-2002, 12:13 AM
mother of god. that first picture is amazing man. the lighting is just superb. sorry no crits. but you deserve some praise.
Very very nice work! :D
I know how hard it can be to get images that "work" for kids - and you've got a style right on the button!
02-20-2002, 03:27 AM
Nice... very nice.. what more could one say ;)
02-20-2002, 03:35 AM
WOW. Love the way all three pics hang together within themselves yet all three are very different in many ways. Great lighting.. but great everything really. :)
02-20-2002, 06:13 AM
hey this looks really great! I'ts for a book you say eh? In a way thats a shame...images this nice should move. Such a nice look. when will the book be out? i want one :-)
02-26-2002, 04:01 AM
Thanks everyone for the nice compliments.
My wife does the writing, so no 3D coolness from her. She has a PhD in literature, so I think that is plenty. I have to be able to contribute something to the marrige. he he.
These books and some other manuscripts are at several publishers as we speak, some interest, but nothing final right now.
As soon as something goes through we will let you all know.
Oh, and I keep forgetting to update this. I had another picture to show and I keep getting distracted.
so here it is...
also I put up a couple of links to some test animations that I did!
02-26-2002, 04:23 AM
geeze its guys like you that make me want to shoot myself in the face. thats fantastic man!
02-26-2002, 04:32 AM
I doubt I'm the only person seeing those four stills that is thinking... I'd really like to see a film fom this. I d/l-ed the street .avi too and that really made me want to see more anim.
Think your lip sync needs to be tighter and on the anim only test I think the arm should move quicker, especially as it goes down.. but there again I think 90% of animation I see is too slow so I think that's a personal thing. Again.. great stuff and really hope you do go on to making a film from this.. .. (even if you don't want too):p :) :)
02-26-2002, 09:43 AM
Well what can I say. They're just beautiful man. And that voice you used for the lipsinc was great. Did you grab that off of something or record it yourself? Anyway, thanks for indulging us in an animation. Little did you know you just fed the fire, and now we want even more! We are a pretty hungry crowd. But once again, bravo.
02-26-2002, 12:01 PM
i love your pics they are greate, very good style..
02-26-2002, 12:47 PM
Nice work! I like it
02-26-2002, 03:48 PM
very very very beautifull!!! the slime dripps from my mouth. this is why i want to be good at 3d and this is also why i'm frustrated because i have a long learning way to go :)
02-26-2002, 06:07 PM
WOW just one crit.. the eyes... watchout the eyes they are sometimes crossing or something...makes your little girls look lifeless (your post apocalyptic snow boarder have lots of life in his eyes)
very coooooool work!!!
I like it!!:D
can you post more render picture??
05-01-2002, 11:33 AM
 Ohh! It's amazing! Koryh! you're a great master!
congratulations for your stuff!
five starts hollywood!!
05-01-2002, 12:13 PM
I like the scene that two girls counting money in the street,
sunny day, cute girl, and warm air.
I love it.
05-01-2002, 05:19 PM
I allready saw these on your site a couple of weeks ago but now I can respond to them...
05-01-2002, 05:42 PM
i dont know if im right or not, but the right girl in the last pic looks a little pale. and too white.
I like life,good work,hope wacth your book:applause:
Is EVERYONE writing/illustrating a children's book now?! With work like this out there, I guess I'll have to work even harder on my "pet project". :) Great work.
05-01-2002, 08:21 PM
Not only the main-characters are great but also the background looks really alive.
Only one crit: Those children have a really creapy look (like chucky from the horrormovies). I don't think that the book is meant to scare the kiddies who read it....
Sorry for the crit, but 'hey'
05-01-2002, 09:18 PM
Gee, thanks people.
Yes, my wife and I have said some of the same things about the characters as well,
I have changed them a bit since I originally posted theses.
Maybe I will show some updates?
They are NOT supposed to be scary ;)
Getting subtle expressions and characters in 3D is proving quite challenging for me. It comes down too, tweak, render, tweak, render, tweak, render, tweak and so on...
......mmmmmh...........I love ur work.....is fantastic.....i work on children illustration field (2d),and i never see before a so good 3d images 4 this kind of product!......... im amazed, the ice cream image is so beautyfull that deserve to be a poster!............my jaws drop on the floor........ .........................great man,to you and your wife.
(must be fantastic to work with the beloved mate......i really envy you he he....)
05-02-2002, 04:19 AM
OZ--grazie molto. Mi diverto fare il mio lavoro.
05-02-2002, 06:07 AM
hey koryh i think the job is great, the whole concept, but i wouldnt say the images are ready to be printed. in the image with the soccer ball, the specular of the soccer ball is really strong!, and same in the image with the man with the ice cream the specular of the skin of the girls is extremely strong, like on the fore head and on the arm, it looks soo white and bright, thats the only thing i would try to correct but your work is really professional!
05-02-2002, 07:15 AM
Do you work for Pixar?
cool pics you should make
a short film you have a good eye
:applause:
05-02-2002, 05:22 PM
*low whistle* Wow, that is truly beautiful. Very Pixar-esque - only... only richer! More detailed, and more vibrant. Fantastic work, and I must say those animations were pretty cool as well! I'm afraid that if I were simply doing still images I wouldn't bother with phonemes or animation tests...
And how on earth did you get that dog so RIGHT? It's perfect!
as a fresh father these images are really up my alley.
is it all 3D or does it have some 2D touches.
05-02-2002, 05:41 PM
I dont know what liqid tension is talking about man. looks great to me.
Very beautiful 3D pictures :bounce:
05-02-2002, 07:02 PM
I like them so much!
     :
05-02-2002, 09:56 PM
Thanks again folks.
Liquid --I know what you are talking about. And believe me I have seen all the things you pointed out. I know I have much more work to do. I agree with the blown out highlights. I was experimenting. In the finals I will render out every thing separately and tweak a lot more in Photo shop. Thanks for the constructive criticism; it reinforces my own thoughts on how I can make these better!
As for whether or not they are straight renders? I would say they are at least 90% render and the rest is PS love.
PS I am working on another couple of pieces, as a proof of concept.
Basically I am using 3D as my reference and then painting over it.
The method seems to be working quite well. I will try to put up a how I work section on my website in a couple of weeks. That should be cool.
Also I am rendering the last shot of my Retro-Active trailer, as we speak. WooHoo. Just some layering in of effects in After effects and I am done. And the music is going well too! YEAH!
05-02-2002, 10:49 PM
your work is very inspiring man!! and a children's book? i mean! that's such a great idea!
good work once again :wavey:
05-02-2002, 11:57 PM
Those are very cool,
love the fact that she's holding her soccerball on the picture on the wall, very good detail.
Very good work.
05-03-2002, 05:53 AM
Like so many others I am replying to this post....I have to say that those are really good images. Good composition, characters, lighting....but the one with the sled....it'd be cool to see powder spraying out behind it. and some trails. how long have you been doing 3d?

05-04-2002, 11:02 AM
Are we gonna see some more!?!
05-05-2002, 08:28 AM

I think I will be revisiting one or two of these picture and try to take them to ne next level. I am planning on adding a little more detail here and there and soften up the lighting a bit.

01-22-2005, 04:54 PM
I like the lighting in the second pic. And I love the way you tilted the pines, adds such a nice touch. Would have been a lot different if they were vertical.

05-25-2005, 07:32 AM
Good work and fun, I love children.
07-20-2005, 11:50 AM
Amusing professional graphic.I like those images.
09-21-2005, 09:56 PM
Very cute! I really like the scenes you put the girls in. You should post more images once they are done. I'm sure your children's books will be awesome. Good Luck!
12-14-2005, 11:10 AM
These are lovely images and very original as well. May I make a tiny crit? The black rim on the inside of the eyelids is a wee bit harsh on such fair haired characters. I understand you want to emphasise the eyes, but I reckon a mid to dark brown would be better than solid black.
Good luck with the project.
03-30-2006, 05:53 AM
Great expressions and colors! The guestures are expressive too !
