Hello all,

I had a question about rigging in V8. I want to use soft IK with a reverse foot situation. Has anyone gotten this sort of thing to work in V8 yet? Let alone a reverse foot with just IK.

And what 's the deal with IK and softIK. Can they be used in tandem?

And where are those sample rigs. i guess I am too much of an early birder. Sorry to be a pain but I am really anxious....

Not quite sure what you mean by revers foot. Coul you explain? do you mean where your bones are reversed?

I Know how to plant feet but not sure about this reverse foot.

As for sample rigs I'll check into that for you.

The reverse foot is a common implement for rigging a characters foot.

You have a control foot whose rotational properties are linked to the foots hierarchy. You can get some really sophisticated foot controls from it. It can pivot the foot on 4 axis giving a realistic performance from a fairly easily animated implement.

If you poke around a little I am sure you can find a tut or two on how to do this with LW Softimage or Maya (and of course 3d tudio Max). I am trying to pull this off in C4d but I have no experience in Xpresso ( I got it working somewhat with BT though).

Any takers?

oh you mean like this?

reverse foot in C4D (http://www.tsslab.com/downloads/bend.mov)

Thats donovan keiths example. personally I am still for the goals and effectors system myself but whatever works.

Kind of.

The reverse foot that I was trying to get is a a rig that exist outside of the rig. Where it's rotations are swapped out to the rotations of the bones inside of the hierarchy. It also tracks at the ankle.

Here's an example in Maya

very cool, donovan's is a far simpler version. I will play around with this when I get a chance. Volume sure is quite.

Yeah I just used vlc for the mac to view it. I had to select the max volume setting to just barely hear it.

Here something for all mac users to know, if you have a .divX or a DivX .avi file you can play it in QT6 by simply changing the extension to .mp4. Least that works on PC's so I think it would work on macs too.

i think vlc is the best solution but you can also dl a divx component from www.divx.com that you have to put in the QT folder in the library folder(os x). works pretty good for me. :)

This is a pretty cool foot rig I used in Maya, works nice actually http://www.taaffedesigns.net/Foot_tutorial.htm and was quite easy to setup. Guess all I have to do now is learn expresso :)
