View Full Version : Texture Mapping Problems........
Ph0n33z 04-25-2005, 05:50 PM Alright,
I am having some issues with a total texture I am using. I am brand new to texture mapping in C4D so please bare with me.
Basically, I created a material with the texture in bump. When applied using frontal mapping, as that is the only one that would show correctly, the texture is a little bit off center. It is tilting towards the right instead of being straight across...
Also, why does the texture size change as I render further or closer from the object?

Frontal projection uses the camera as coordinate reference for the texture, so it will basically look the same whether you're close up or far away from the scene. This is a pretty special case that you normally wouldn't want to use unless you were projecting background images and so on.
To get some suggestions on what to do instead, I suggest you post some pictures showing us what you want to achieve.

I am trying to create vinyl siding for a house I have created. I was trying to decide between modeling the siding, or just using a bump/spd. What do you think would be more efficient?
Here is a picture of the house:

Modeling the detail looks better, but it's not nearly as efficient. If you're going to map it you'll want to use polygon selections for the front-facing and side-facing walls. Then apply separate materials with flat mapping to the respective selections.

Well, for the walls, you should be using simple flat projections. Just use the texture tool to line up the projection with the wall geometry (rotate or move it as needed) - and unless you plan to make any close-ups on the walls, there's really no need to model such detail, bumps should do fine.

I think the problem I am having is due to the mesh. When I apply a texture to just one selected front wall, it defaults to spherical........this should not be happnening should it? I thought it defaulted to UVM if everything was ok...........
I can not get the texture to line up or layout properly, and I believe the mesh is the problem.

The mesh doesn't have anything to do with UV projectios (other than UVW). Just change the projection in the texture tag to flat, then use the texture axis tool to move/rotate/scale the projection until it looks the way you want. *cough*RTFM*cough*! Bit of a scratchy throat!

ouch...........
sorry for being such an idiot. I guess I deserve that. No more questions like this from me!
The problem was that I was scaling/rotating the texture on the surface, but could not find the proper layout. I started over, and luckily chose the right direction to rotate it...Thanks alot guys!
