Curious Labs ‘Poser® 5’ Ships Today

Release Includes FireFly™ Renderer, Dynamic Hair, Cloth, and Photo-based Facial Mapping

Santa Cruz, Calif., September 6, 2002 — Curious Labs, Inc. announces today it has begun shipping Poser 5, the eagerly anticipated new version of their award-winning 3D-character animation tool for artists and animators. Poser 5 delivers unprecedented features combined with ease-of-use, giving artists, hobbyists and creative professionals access to technologies never before offered in one package.

“Poser 5 is a remarkable offering,” said Steve Cooper, president of Curious Labs. “We wanted to repeat Poser’s formula for success: Make difficult 3D-character tools easy to master, and price those tools so that any artist can afford to buy them. Poser 5 follows that formula precisely. Dynamic cloth and strand-based hair, photo-based facial mapping, and our powerful new FireFly render engine are just some of the new features included in Poser 5. And of course, because it’s Poser, mastering these exciting new tools will be easy and acquiring them will be affordable.”

Poser 5’s key new features include:
*FireFly Renderer: hybrid micro-polygon and Ray Trace render engine with subdivision surface rendering of polygons, which enables:
-Render-time polygon smoothing
-Displacement mapping
-3D motion blur
-Depth of field
-Procedural textures
*Shader Trees with material nodes
*Ray Traced refraction and reflection
*Dynamic Hair with growth, styling and physics controls
*Dynamic Cloth with physics and parameter-controlled attributes
*Photo-based facial mapping, with a database of scanned 3D human heads and textures
*Morph Putty™ tool for interactive sculpting, and direct manipulation of facial expressions
*Hierarchical Parameters Palette with parameter grouping functionality
*Hierarchical Libraries with support for multiple Runtime folders
*All new highly accurate 3D human figures with fully articulated hands and feet, featuring photorealistic texture maps and facial morphs from Runtime DNA
*Collision Detection
*Content Paradise portal for in-Poser 5 access to online content resources

Poser 5 will initially be available for Windows; details about a Macintosh version will be announced later this autumn. More information on Poser 5 is available at: www.curiouslabs.com.

Poser 5 is available at an average street price of US$349 via the web and distributors internationally. Poser 5 will ship to European customers on or before September 15th.
