Very impresive....

Crit.....

I think more weight is needed on that first step....

and the tail looks wierd curled when it roars.....

Nice job, Joel. So, what's it like to actually finish something??

Looks like a good exercise in a little bit of everything in 3D.

When I first saw that seen in the movies I remember being joked up. I know, sounds dumb, but I've always loved dinosaurs and I was awestruck. The visuals, the sound, the mood and Spielberg putting no music in that entire scene made it even more real.

OK. Geek moment over. Looking forward to your next trip to the "park."

That turned out great Joel. The animation is really top knotch! I'd love to hear how you did got the tree moving like that.

Hi Chris, thanks

There was a lot going on in the scene, trees, wires, wind, rain
HaHa! and in the final render it all seems so subtle...oh well who cares.

With Maya, there is something called 'PaintEffects' where you can paint in 3D space with a brush, and it creates primitive plants or whatever you choose and they can have dynamic attributes like wind blowing leaves...The thing that is great is that these brushes can be converted into geometry which is what I did.

I scratched the surface.

I was wondering what you said in you newest post, did you lose all your work? That Velociraptor is one of the best dinosaurs models I have seen. Oh, I hope not.

Woo, great start their Joel! Maybe a bit more secondary motion on the upper torso to help sell the weight a bit more. Fantastic work!!!

Hi Joel

I know it's a little late but I only came accross you animation now via you African Elephant animation thread.

That's some really awesome and inspiring work. I've been fascinated with Dinosaurs since I can remember so a good Dino-anim always steals the show for me.

Brilliantly done.

hey joel nice work. the only crit i have is when the t-rex steps it doesnt seem like it has any real weight to it, too stiff. i think a little bounce like effect when he steps and then catches himself to recover would have made the animation alot better when just that subtle change. but great work none the less, very impressive.

Awesome stuff, I remember this in the WIP stage. You definitely took it to the next level!

Great work.

Man, that was mind-blowing!

Did you add the sound in Maya or in postwork? And by the way, what was postwork? Anything?

Hey thanks a lot.

Yes I added the sound to the timeline to synch the animation. Had comp the rain particles in AE, also I added a little exaggeration (pop) to the lightning with a white frame.

Glad you liked it.

yeah, definately more weight on the first step, and also the rain is way too slow. So far so good!

late to comment but this is super cool! fantastic!
something about the specularity of the trex bothers me though, maybe the highlight shouldnt burn out like it does or something? and the highlight from the first lightning on the car looks round and it kind of gives away that its a spotlight or something. dunno how one would fix that easily though. :argh:
(oh I think the speed of the rain is fine by the way, adds to the size of the scene. would be even cooler if you could sorta see some of it (the rain that is) bounce off stuff?)
