Ok I've made some tests with brazil glass material and my XL7 glass (double material for front and back). Same scene, same ray depth (100), same reflection number (100), same AA (best 1x1 - 4x4). Brazil has been a little faster (3 mins against 4) but its accuracy with AA is not good as C4D's. The result is quite identical but you have to keep in mind something about the rendertimes. Brazil has bucket rendering (C4D not yet) and if I set AA to zero C4D is much faster (2 mins Brazil VS 29 secs C4D) and the quality of C4D AA is still much better! But I have to say that if you don't use a double material in C4D you'll get nasty results without glass solidity. Brazil has a lot of settings for refraction falloff and refraction channel, C4D has not a separate refraction channel and refraction controls yet

I'd say the C4D image looks much better. The Brazil render looks sort of posterized.

the brasil one seems to have less variance of shades in the middle. Kinda like that myself, but the bottom of the C4D glass is definitely better.

well, for me i can say thqat i like the c4d glass a bit better. :D

Wow. It's really odd that, with all the amazing looking glass in the splutterfish gallery, and all the stellar work being done by legit users and artists, that this image looks so bad.

The C4D folks are doing some really great work, granted, but I'll bet I could produce crappy images with their software too :)

Perhaps you should take advantage of the support systems at splutterfish and find out what's wrong.

Edit: as soon as I posted this, some one said "post some images" - so, here's some links from different places:

Again - just to be clear - I'm not diss'ing C4D - just replying to the implication that Brazil r/s' glass looks like the image that started this thread - thanx.

Ahh but see this is where the problem with those images is, those are beautiful images created by talented artists. thirdeye's comparison is a direct comparison of a simplest of renders. No fancy scenes with special reflection setups or lighting rigs, just plain straight forward renders. And while he was probably trying to show that he is happier with C4D's render, I think the side by seide comparison shows flaws from both renderers, while the bottom of the Brazil glass doesn't look as goo, there is a weird gray spot in the upper area of the the stem in the C4D render. I wouldn't say either render is less useable than the other myself, but I do like the C4D one more simply because the problems are a little less noticable than the bottom area.

Ok, there's a little bit of confusion here. I did this test only to have the chance: 1) to test the Brazil default glass material 2) to compare it with C4D glass that I have made. The Comparison has been done with exactly the same settings (as you can see) and it was INTENTIONALLY very simple, only a glass and a floor object just to compare the simpliest result possible and see how the 2 renderers reacted to the test! Brazil glass is not crappy, I think it's great, I tested it with more complex scenes and it rocks as C4D's. But I have to tell something about the scenes you posted:
they're all great (nothing so special you can't make with C4D anyway, apart from the problem of lack of refraction control in C4D) but there's always lack of ray depth, there are a lot of black zones in those glasses... But it's sufficient to increase the number of reflections and refractions.
