just use a rederable spline [called linetool]. . .
it's in the command panel under the create tab/shapes.

Bump or displacement mapping, that's it
or you take a cylinder, convert it to polys, refine it where needed and add a deform path, animate, and tadaaaaa ! :)

or like this....
First off... click here (ftp://ftp.techsmith.com/pub/products/camtasia/tscc.exe) to get the small TSCC codec
Click me for another zany video (http://www.visualboo.com/movies/helpers/tubes_galore.avi)

hehe... glad you liked it
I just made a better one for my site. This one is 2.9mb. If yours is the 2.4mb version you might want to check this one out. A bit different.
Here's the link (http://www.visualboo.com/movies/helpers/tubes_galore.avi)
Same link as before btw

i liked the first one better boo
only cause it was a little slower and easier to read
you reminded me that using loop is a good tool hehe
since i watched that i have been playign with it and getting use to it
but sice i do my my stuff with editmesh for easier extrusions welds and bevels(least for me it is) i have been converting back and forth
great thing is though i can use the edge/loop/convert to fae and then convert to edit mesha nd have them all selected still
bound a key for converting to poly or editmesh makes modeling so much faster
anyway nice little tut you had there and again thanks for it cause ive now got a new way of modeling

Thanks for the input guys
marcusx: If you have the 2.9mb version, I'm just simply selecting the line object to start drawing :)
Sgt.ArchAngel: I'm curious....
i do my my stuff with editmesh for easier extrusions welds and bevels
why do you think it's easier with mesh?

Im pretty new to 3ds Max.. I´ve been doing some 3D along time ago in a program called Imagine (on amiga at first ;) ), this was along time ago.. kinda like 7 years or soo.. well .
my point is .. I have seen 3D before .. but dont know much about 3Dsmax.. just learning.. And I still dont have a clue what is happening in that first half of a second ? ?
It looks neat though ;)

Basically I just draw a line
then, set it to be renderable.
Set the radius to 10
then convert to editable poly.

i think its easier cause when i try extruding more than one face or line with poly it for some reason always goes in difefrant directions
with edit mesh i can get it all to go out or same direction if i want
i jsut havnt figured out how to do it with poly yet

visualboo: tnx.. now I understand.. :)
there´s alot more in 3DsMax than in Imagine for the Amiga 1994 :)
I just have to search some Tutorials on the net to get starting ;..
