View Full Version : Animating sword play
jonestation 10-04-2002, 08:50 AM I am using MAX standard Bone, I wonder how to make my character pick up a sword(which is static on the floor), and do some sword fighting act, then throw away the sword. How do I make the sword follow the character hand, and then being throw away.

change the transform type [of the sword] in the motion tab from position/rotation/scale to link constraint.
do a search in max user reference for 'link constraint' to find out more about how it works

Use a Link Constraint (Max4/5) or a Link Controller (Max3-). These allow you to have an object linked to different parents on different frames, the Constraint flavour even allows weighted linking between multiple parents.
Look in the help files for the full procedure.

Is that mean I create 2 dummy, one on the floor, and one is for the sword to follow after the character throw the sword? Before pick up , the sword follow the first dummy, when being pick up, it follow character hand bone, and when it being throw, follow the second dummy. I will try it. Thanks.
