View Full Version : Modeling a car
Jurenic 10-04-2002, 03:01 AM Please please please please someone make a tutorial on how to make a high-poly photorealistic car. Don't tell me you don't kow, because i saw MANY finished models on these forums.;) , and when i see them i go like this: :applause: :scream:
So here is what i know, you make those crapy references (They show blurrrrry, and don't match in views) and then make outlines. I use splines for that stuff, but how do you conect them? With the help of snap?? Is that how?? Anyways, the bad thing is when I try to make more lines (So i can use surface modifier to conect them and make a shape) it goes out of shape. Expecially where you try to cross the line from midle edge of hood to fender, it goes straight, it's hard to match the curv of car. What do I do????????????????????? I hope you undersood me.
Thanks..

Jurenic, it sounds like you're a noobie, so here is a bit of advice. First off, you should really do some of the tutorials, on the web, and the ones included in max before trying something as ambitious as a car. Go to either Suurland.com, or trinsica.com and read how to properly set up your references, they shouldn't be blurry.(unless the reference pix are not good)
Everyone wants to make something when they first get started, but without basic knowledge of the techniques you plan on using, you will be running in circles, and the results will be sub par. As for photorealism, that should come later, you have enough to concentrate on with learning modeling techniques and lighting/materials.

yes he is right
you need to learn more about the basics first if your having a problem as simple as that to fix(no offence)
try going to the pages he mentioned and goto www.3dbuzz.com and look up spline modeling in there tutorials
there are tuts there that go from basics to advanced car and facial modeling
i know how you feal though.
when i first started out i wanted to build a human head on my second day of maxing and realized it jsut doesnt work that way
take your time..learn the tools...then start trying more advanced stuff such as cars
also the max help files have good spline tutorials too and explain the steps used in surface tools modeling F1 in max for more info
