Electronic Arts is currently looking for a number of Texture Artists for project-based hire.
These positions will last about 6 months in length.
Prerequisites:
A portfolio demonstrating the following is required:
Strong drawing skills
Good use of line and light
Breadth of artistic styles
Understanding of color theory
Ability to work within a style including a style set by another artist/art director/ Brand Identity
Candidates should have good knowledge of Art History
REQUIREMENTS:
An ability to create complex textures while using minimal necessary colors, resolution etc
A strong depth of knowledge of traditional illustration and painting techniques/styles
An ability to work in wide range of styles
UNDERSTANDING:
Demonstrate an good understanding of:
Multi layer and multi pass texturing systems
CG lighting
Batch Image manipulation tools
Demonstrates a strong understanding of:
Vector and Raster Image Creation tools and appropriate use of both
Light/Shadow
Color theory
Art History
How palettes and CLUTs work, and how to use efficiently
RESPONSIBILITIES:
With nominal supervision uses builds textures for primary and secondary characters, objects and environments and:
Ensures that textures are consistent with defined visual style for the game
Are within budget, efficient and optimized for real time systems
Utilizes tools to ensure texture assets are fully optimized for target platforms while minimizing any impact on artistic integrity of assets
Wherever possible, uses techniques to build textures that are resolution independent
May be asked to build basic 3D models or assist with building of basic to intermediate levels
During preproduction assists Senior Texture artist and Art Director with determining how texture styles will impact final look of game; where appropriate conducts research and develops examples of various texture styles
