It would seem niether is Crystalmesh, Darkhorizon, Soul, Hyper, Fyrestarter(Erik Asorson) or even Bobo I think but somehow I don't think you know who I would be talking about. The only online persona I know who *Might* fit that rather narrow list of rigid guidelines is Rorshack (in Scotland AND is available I think) but alas - I don't think he works with lightwave.
lol, oh well - tough luck I guess. :insane:
(IF you find yourself with few replies Mr. Anderson, you could check out polycount and look up Rorshack's profile. He may still be looking for work and he's local.) :arteest: :deal:
____
oh heck, here:
http://www.planetquake.com/polycount/cottages/rorshach/index2.shtml
Its interesting to note the sort of talent that ISNT qualified:

http://www.erikasorson.com/

It just sounds like you need to find good people fast and your going to be hard pressed with those guidelines, and it would be a shame if maybe you're overlooking some real options. I know of and have met many very talented artists who don't have 2 games shipped, mostly because the projects got canned by the publishers which really doesn't invalidate their experience and ability to produce in-game art assets. Good luck with your search anyway.

Hi
Thanks for those names I will take a look.
Apart from these posts I search the gallery boards for talent anyway. I posted recently for animators and got over 600 reels. I had less rigid guidelines and around 500 were sadly not worth looking at. The guidlines are a selfish way of saving me time 8-)
I will take your advice and post some less demanding requirements.
Thanks
Donnie

Actually, aside from Rorshack most everyone I mentioned is working ATM and or living in Australia or something. I just mentioned most of those sites and names more as examples of some artists that are quite talented but don't have two games published and or lightwave experience. If you haven't already, you may want to look at advertising on Gamasutra too ( www.gamasutra.com ) - the contract section might be worth a look over.
Rorshack however, (Kevin is his name I believe) Just finished up a contract with Legend working on Unreal II. He would definitely be worth firing off an email and asking about. I actually don't know him personally, just from his online art postings and work experience which speaks for itself.
I also sympathize with you on the issue of demo reels. Lots of not so good stuff out there or great portfolios without any real time work and so it's a tough search to find the right artist sometimes that you are confident will work out. The thing that I would suggest (and forgive me for being so bold – yet again) is asking for reels and portfolio that actually have game art related work - that should at least filter out 70% of the portfolios that don't show what you would want to see or backing off to the one game or previous game work experience expectation.
(Many game artists in France just got laid off from what I understand, many of them working on one title or another but the projects never panned out so no published credit for them. However, I’m sure many of them are still very capable. Perhaps there is a dedicated French job board you can use to reach out to those people?)
The lightwave point might also be holding back a lot of possible candidates. For example, most of the talented artists that I know would probably adapt to the basics of lightwave in a week. Truth is they only need to learn how to use the basic tools to do the work (or the work can be ported from one application to another easy enough) and it's not like they need to understand the particle system, renderer, post effects or much else other than creating groups of triangles and UV mapping them.
Most talented game artists are quick with software and have an attitude of it being just another tool, as the largest part of the equation for in-game art is not proprietary software based. So they would be likely very honest in saying 'I can learn'. Unless you are looking at animators, that ramp up is obviously going to be steeper.
Anyhow, best of luck again and I hope you find the people you need.
cheers!
