loosely based off israel's security barrier, the VISION just came to my head and this is what i came up with ( i remember it from a photo i've seen) -

software used - maya 6.5 , maxwell render , photoshop CS

just started sometime last night, still under heavy C&C

critique away guys :)

(still need to find appropriate textures for the ground and transition area)

for such an extreme low detail motive it looks not bad. hope you add some activity in it.

thanks man. i was actually tryin to stay with the "minimalistic" approach for this project. might change my mind though haha

Just don't make it like the East/West German Border. Grenades attached to the fence, Land Mines, Guard Dogs, Barbed Wire, Cement blocks.

You can see the segments in the tower, is that on purpose?

Maybe something else on the ground to give us more of a perspective of how tall the wall really is.

good idea bout adding something to show the scale

any ideas on what to add though?

the segments are done on purpose, didnt wanna make it a plain straight flat wall haha

looking great so far :)

I think you should try to make it as true to the reference images you have, and from the images I've seen of this thing, there is lots of debris (garbage, metal pieces, etc.) and rocks lying around this thing., so you could use that to show the scale. Also is this your whole image, or is it longer? It would certainly give a very god impression of it's length to see it's edge shrink into the lower corner of the image.

p.s. it's too shiny for a cement wall :)

You should add some people (arabs and cops)... also maybe burning tires/car scraps/whatever :) Though I've never seen burning *something* at the border as much as i saw it :)

I like the style, as you mentioned 'minimalism' seems to work well. One of my crits is that the texture on the lower, angled area of the wall seems to be stretched. I think I can see some weird pixel issues with it.

The bottom of the tower also looks a bit too sharp. I'm not sure if it's the lighting or what, but it almost looks like it's floating on top of the surface.

Other than that, for starting last night...

I think that the second shot is what I would consider to be "complete." My only objection to the first shot was the foreground area below the wall, which you cleaned up. Now try some other camera setups in the same prison, but with completely different contents.

Keep it minimal, I love it. You don't need any guns. Don't listen to those guys. Keep it mysterious. Still needs a little work on the cement, both the blends on the ramp, and the scale of the wall texture. The details look to large for a wall of that size. It makes it look miniature.

Yeah but you never really know what people will stick in their 3d to make it 'cool'.

Oooh, you know what you should do with this? Do some dutch angles, or even a super-wide angle of that wall going off into what seems like infinity.

I see you are using maxwell render, so you should be able to get a realistic fisheye.

i was sorta just playin 'bout the turret thing  i thought it'd be a funny idea though ahaha

but yea guys, im definately keepin it minimal.

jeremy - i agree completely about the texture on the ramp, ill have that fixed soon. and ill try a widescreen render tonight

kharn - i know what you're sayin about the tower, but i'm tryin to base this off a photograph, and its on the outside just like i modelled it

keep the c&c coming guys  i appreciate it

That's pretty cool. I don't have really anything else to say except for good job.
