View Full Version : Wire Parameters Dialogue Wackiness in Max 5??

Is anyone finding the Wiring Parameters Diaglogue in Max 5 difficult? I'm not able to get the "find next parameter" button to always find the next wired parameter. For instance, it seems like the controlling wire parameter (the green ones) is not showing up when you open the dialogue. The red receiving wires show up, though. So if you highlight what you know to be a green controlling wire paramter (even though it's not green) and want to find what it's wired to by pressing the "find next wired parameter button", you have to go through the whole list to finally get to it. Then the controlling paramter turns green....... :thumbsdow

It just seems so much more difficult than in Max 4? I know I miss the scroll bars. The little hand scroller just doesn't get it.

AND (big gripe) :annoyed: is there a way to stop the windows from 'auto-scrolling' to the selected parameter?

Please let me know if someone has some techniques for working with the Wire parameters dialogue so I can stop wasting so much time hunting and scrolling for the right wires to what is already selected, while the windows jump about and rearrange themselves on there own making life miserable.

I really do like all the new stuff in 5. It rocks. Just some of the old stuff, which was already convoluted, seems more broken.

Maybe somethings corrupted in my .ini or install.

Thanks,

Mahlon

I was about to post a similar thread, although I only looked briefly over the max 5 Wiring Parameters and I thought they were better than max 4. I didn't get the scrolling artifact and I think the greens are only shown once you select the red.

I still think it's one of the worst interfaces I've ever seen. I'm working on a homework rigging assignment in max 4 where almost each bone has a controller object wired to another controller object. I wired them, but it was really unconvenient.

The least you would expect is a right-click option showing you what the object is wired to in both directions. You could also think of an interface that had an option to graphically represent the links in a more obvious way than the red/green text and a direction button.

I agree. In max 4 the greens showed up when you opened the dialogue, like you would expect them to.

Are you sure you're not getting the scrolling? What I mean is that when you click on the find next parameter in the opposite window, it automatically scrolls everything up to the left corner of the screen, highlighting the 'wired to' parameter.

I don't know. It's so frustratingly un-ergonomic that I throw my hands up? I just opened a wiring dialogue and had a simple object in my scene selected (which I know is wired to another object). The dialogue came up totally closed up. I had to hunt down the list for the object I was trying to find the wiring for. Also, why are there so many other parameters' icons highlighted? These are not selected!!! I only have the object SELECTED which I SELECTED.......arrrrgggggh.:D

I like your right click to show the 'wired to' parameter....

Umm.... Bobo?....

Oh yes, SIDEWAYS scrolling. I thought it was extremely ennoying. Why would anyone do such a thing? Actually Bobo has some scripts for max4 I haven't tried yet.

You know, in max 4 the greens aren't always showing either. Just when the corresponding red parameter is selected. I'm redoing that wiring again now, that's why i noticed.
