View Full Version : Layer Opacity, for a Futurist/Motion Path effect (layers uploaded)

Im having trouble getting an effect using video frames, to create a futurist type image. Here is an example of what i want to achieve (by edgerton)

It is for my final Fine art unit, where I am exploring movement, capturing it with photography, manipulating with a computer.. the unit is called 'application of technology'..
but being Fine Art, I must produce painting to end with (15 hour exam), though need the photo references as research, plus to work from for a painting.
I need to know the steps you take to achieve this effect more than anything, as I aim to capture a video of my final painting movement this weekend, and compile the futurist photo from that.

Here is an example, I am actually currently working on a small oil painting of this sequence, it is of a friend lifting a weight, and its the locomotion of his arm im capturing.

And I had to get stuck into the oils, on canvas at college, this is about an hours work... obviously no where near done

Anyway, here is the original set of images, in layers, .PSD format, sorry about the horrid low res, its was take on my ageing digi cam. (if file expires, PM me)
Basically, I would like maybe about 6 layers showing
the two extremes of the movement
four or five intermediate 'motion captures'

I don't understand what you are asking us? Do you want to know how to layer these seperate painted images together so that they all blend together to show each and every frame? Adjust opacity of layers and play with layer blending modes. I'd suggest trying normal, screen, soft light.

if you download that document ^^ you can i have all the layers, serepated.. i will have a play with the settings you mentions, though i tried opacity adjustment, strange thing is, i think ive got this to work before.

any links to tuts on 'ghosting' will be appriciated.. the tutorial links sticky just contains too many to have time to look through every single one
