Is the transparency bug (with GI) still there with the new R8 too? I'm referring to the bug that didn't let the light pass through transparent objects with skydome illumination... (see also the thread named "this brazil rs glass rock, how in C4D?")

the render engine remains pretty much the same. if you have a pc you'll notice a speed difference i'm told. on my mac i've not noticed any difference in speed (though it should be 10% faster apparently). the renders from gi do appear to be a little bit smoother, and the sampling looks like it's got an ever so slightly different algorythm... it's still based on the older final render engine. however the new post effects are trully stunning. ;)

Did you try with a transparent object (it is sufficient a very low cylinder)? Is the bug still there?

well i finally got round to doing a test render, and yes it's still there. sorry.

A few things to keep in mind when they post thngs like that speed increase and such is howcomplex your scene is, alot of te optimisations are typically with scene handling and such, so for simple testrenders and single objects on floors and such there will be little difference if any, heck I have had a few slower ones. But overall any complex scene should render a fair bit faster.

Thank you very much, i suspected it because also finalRender 1.4 got this problem

I still don't think its a bug but a limitation, I think images where you don't see it have a light in there somewhere.

No kai, I don't think it's a limitation and I explain you why: the correct way to obtain a good image (as the finalRender forum moderators told me) is rendering without transparent materials, save the GI solution, turn on the glass and reuse the saved solution, it works perfectly (or nearly)

Why not just put render tags on your transparent materials to exclude them from the GI solution? That's what I do.

i believe if you do that you wont get any shadows at all from the glass (but i'm not 100% certain of this cos my system is too slow to really test this out), and glass does have some shadows, just not that much. saving the solution then re-rendering causes the render engine to have to update and generate the gi solution for parts of the scene that weren't in the fov before.

see now that makes no sense at all, because you obviously going to get a shadow underneath the object as its a solid object .

I know it has no sense kai but... It works ;)

But overall any complex scene should render a fair bit faster.

so the render-speed of advancedrender increased on mac, too? if so, are there some differences between mac and pc renderings? what platform will get more advantage from the renderer optimation?

thanks fo helping me out.:wavey:

@thirdeye:
don't know if it is what you mean but have a look, please. it is a xL7 render made by janine pauke.

rendering speeds have increased up to 15% on macs, 30% on AMDs, and 40% on Intels

No Sad, this isn't what I mean. Check the thread named "this brazil rs glass rocks, how in C4D?" and look at my first glass, you'll understand what I mean...

does anyone have the texture or one similier to the table cloth in that paperweight pic ?

who doesn't have it, look through the XL 7 scenes and such, I can't remeber if it was a tutorial or example scene, but its a rediosity scene non the less using the same table setup just different objects. The textures there, and has been used in hundreds of C4D renders, some are clever enough to changes the colours on it, but its still the same table cloth.
