View Full Version : DT3D Skin Shader
migusan76 04-20-2005, 11:36 PM DT3D skin shader is an oren nayar based shader with at the moment 54 controllable attributes that control the subsurface scattering and the many specular layers. It has 4 functions contributing to the subsurface scattering all of which no raytracing is needed to work. Its specular layers are comprised of 8 specular calls one including a lafortune specular function with measured skin reflectance data inputed into it, so really thats 10 specular calls. Then the shader is build in a layer fashion mimicing that of real skin, I layered 3 skin layers the subdermal, dermis and epidermis.

Here's a slightly more 'cartoony' test, Miguel (and the preset):

This shader's got loads of potential for the native renderer; and not a moment to late:D many thanks, Miguel

:) Hey Thanks to everyone glad that you guys like the shader. Osaires Don't worry I plan on making a port to mental ray its just that I'am having trouble with the mental ray API that i can't do that I can in the maya API, but i have full intentions of having a mental ray port. Atwooki thats awesome to see your test with the shader, hopefully i will get to see more test's by other people. bugbird Iam very glad to here that is a easy shader to use that was one of my biggest intentions was to make the shader artistic friendly, unlike most of the Bssrdf shaders that i tried i just never seemed to get the preditable result i wanted.

:) Hey jairbair at the moment i can't compile for maya 6.5 since i don't have the dev kit for that version. but any chance i get to compile for 6.5 I will.

Hey Hopefully I can get it updated for 6.5 soon, I just don't have the dev kit to compile against. So Iam not sure when i'll have access to it.

If there are any things not liked in the shader or things that you guys think could be add to make it better etc just drop me a line miguel@digiteck3d.com or just post it here Iam compiling a list so when it comes to work on the shader again i can try to do some stuff.

wow....LOTS of parameters to use there. I feel a bit overwhelmed with the number of things to tweak
migusan76
05-13-2005, 02:58 PM
Hey 2byts its not that Bad :D once you get used to the shader you don't even notice ALL the parameters. But I've been testing new things for the shader so the way things look those parameters are gonna get longer.

I'm downloading this and am going to give it a shot. I'll post when I've had some experience with it. If it's easier to use than miss than i'm already a happy camper, and it looks great as well. Thanks a bunch!

Unled that will great to see what you can do with it, never used the missShader so i wouldn't know if its easier. But also the mental ray version of this shader is complete, it will be out soon i just need to finish testing it out.
