View Full Version : 2D texture question
moglie 10-03-2002, 01:26 PM My office recently bought Maya Complete for me which is cool but I'm much stronger in Max. I understand how to create planar projections, sew uv's etc. for polygons. What has got me stuck right now is seemingly simple. I just have a .png image of a cartoon iris that I want,in this case, to put on a nurbs sphere. I just can't seem to get it. I've been through the manual and help files (and I know how to texture an orange with a label hehehe) but can't find anywhere how to do something as simple as this. Can anyone fill me in?

have you asigned a material to the nurbs surface and put a link to the .png file in the color attribute?

It doesn't even seem I can bring in the png file. I get an error saying "failed to open texture file....." I assign a material and then from 2D textures, try to assign the image file. I guess I'm missing a step or two.

You were saying, that you cannot even load a picture ? hmmm, try to convert your .PNG file to other format, maybe .TIF will do ? I think that is the solution, if I understood your problem....
You are doing like this:
1) Open HyperShade
2) Choose from Surfaces (Blinn, Lambert, Phong...)
3) Choosing [2d textures] --> FILE
4) Connecting FILE, to the COLOR of the Surface you have Chosen in step N2, using drag&drop with middle mouse button
5) Going to the Atribute Editor of the FILE
6) Loading your picture
And than it says "failed to open texture file....." right ? Well if that's it, than I think that the solution is changing the format of the picture (.png to .tif, or any other file type)
Good Luck !
