View Full Version : Mental Ray - flickering Final Gather

I couldn't believe I couldn't find a post on this already.
I've never done aimation before using Mental Ray, so I haven't had to worry about this. Any errors, when I rarely got them, I would just photoshop away.

I turned rebuild off, that didn't help. It still seems to be rebuilding every frame. I went and checked out some of the suggestions in the maya forum because they have a mental ray specific forum in their thread. The options that they were messing around with aren't available yet in max though. I've got max7.

I've tried adjusting the radius manually, letting it do it automatically, adjusting the rays up to 1000, although it looks just fine at 150. When I used maya before, I hadn't had problems using between 75-500 rays, depending on the objects in the scene. I just had to adjust the radius. The options seem different in max though. For instance, changing radius size causes the time for the render to change. That shouldn't happen, but for some reason it does. Someone told me that they were exactly the same, but anyone who has used both knows better. They only work on the same engine.

Any hints to get this to stop flickering? I'm not using GI, only FG. I have a skylight and only 1 point light.
