The authors of the threads rate their own work with the stars before people actualy crit
@sealtm7: great compositing, its always good to see a fresh look on good films. Its a good idea to do for some really old sci-fyies... to bad no one thinks of these things!
hey
i think this is really cool work. are you doing this for a job - in other words are these movies being re-released or is this an exercise for you.
i watched krull for the first time about 3 years ago. my boss at that time is a big fan of the movie and lent me his dvd copy. i thaught it wsa super cheese and loved it.
very cool :)

Well I can see at least "some " of them do...those who are "too" sure of themselves.

The reason we put the stars up is to get people to actually read our post. People are more likely to look at posts with a rating rather than one without. Call it a gimmick.
to Jono: this is a personal project that we decided to work on to test the new software that we are using/learning. This is only our second round of compositing. So far its fun and exciting!
We know there are things that we needed to fix, but for this project we set a strict deadline and we had to push through inspite of all the new learning and research.
Thanks to everyone for their input. Keep critiques coming please! We are trying to get better.

Ok besides the rating thing, you've made your point Gru and we've learned our lesson. I thought the point of this forum was to get feedback and critiques. As it states in the posting considerations :
"Don't dilute the forums with irrelevant and unnecessary fluff. CGTalk is a professional, moderated forum. It's a place to talk about all things related to computer graphics."
"Critiques and responses to images are to be constructive and related to improving the quality of the artwork."
so please offer us some critiques about the quality of work, problems that you see and how we can improve our work. We see this forum as a great chance to learn, share and disscuss with other creative individuals. Thanks again...

Werd. Done and said, point made even.
The Krull clip is great. The confusing element to me is the rays or whatever they are coming off the "orb" they don't look right, should they be green/glowing? Fantastic job on the illumination of the robe, that's quite ace.
My only issue on the Last Starfighter clip is the darkness of the piece. The new version (*robotic eye-piece* "We die...") is hard to see and seems unlit or underlit. Great idea though. I'd like to do something similar, how'd you get the footage? IM me if you want.

nice work i really like the krull plate, certainly a big improvement. i agree with tdamcbigity about the last starfighter, its just too dark and there is not much of a feeling of depth because all the holograms are a very similar size. its good though, and it'll certainly improve.
i think what u said to gru is a bit harsh as rating you're own work is the reason that star systems fail, if one person rates their own work then everyone does and they end up losing all meaning (its already begun to happen in this section). also, u say that he should be spending more time offering critiques. which is a bit hypocritical considering that you both registered within a month of eachother, he has 500 posts and you only have 14 (all of which are in your own threads, none of them are helping or critiqing somebody else). just my 2 cents
