Hola! Recently, im working on a car modelling for some rendering exercise. I dun hav an exact references to go along. However, I m trying to achieve some classic-looking car model. Below are wip images of the model. Currently, im working on the back of the car.

C & C r seriously needed. Coz i just model it spontanously :P

Thank you.

Loos good so far, I think the headlights though would be mounted on stalks and pointiung forward, at the moment they;re pointing up and attached to the wheel arches.

robot jam:

Thanks for the critics and commends. It really helps out. :banghead: I nvr thought of the headlight placement as it should be. Design is about functionality, aesthetic comes last :P
I really appreciated your c&C. Thanks again.

I hav did some test render of the model itself, for checking it whether looks right or not. Hmmm, anyways the headlights r not right :banghead:
Alrite, im gonna continue working on the back of the model and then figuring out how to fix the headlight :(

Again, pls c&c it. Thank you.

Hola. Some update of my simple model: headlights and overall scale of it.
Somehow, i felt weird about the whole proportion of it, feels not right, but i cant really tell wats wrong. Can somebody pin point out wats wrong with it or kindly give me some insight so that i could improved it?

Below are some wip wire of it:

Well, currently im on vacation, shall be back to work on it by next tuesday. Here a list of things that im plan to work on the model itself:

#1 tail lights,
#2 the door,
#3 improve the bumper, skirt / body kit,
#4 add an muffer tip
#5 interior of the model - dashboard, seats, gas pedal etc.
#6 can't think of any at the moment.

Thank you.

I am still working on the model today. Not much of progress, kind of lost the inspiration and drive to improve the model. I hav reshaped the front chrome bumper, fix the pole problem of the polygon face of the front wheel arch when u poly smooth it, and change the backwheel arch.

I showed my previous rendered images to a relative of my- a secondary school student and gosh i got a interesting c&C from her:

" .......I dun like your car, it is kind of resembling old days car, and only cater for 2 person yet hardly got space for carrying luggage. More over, I can't stand with the orange color, make me feel sick, nvr see an orange car b4, yuck!......"

:D hence, i try to change the car paint color. I havent finalize it, there is too much of reflectivity. Hmmm, hope could finish the model asp, then can work on the texturing then do some rendering test. Below is wat i got for today, pls c&C it. Thank you.

Been working on the car hood; "digged" some hole on it for better ventilation :D
......sigh, is my work really sucks? hardly to get some c&C

Anyways, here is wat i progress for this little evening.

Hola. I hav added 2 more headLights, re-shape the driver sit and doors, and digged more ventilation hole. In addition, I did some vector render test with this model as well.

Well it's getting quite amazing !

It would be a great plus to put this car into an environment though

I would definitly buy this car :)

How did you achieve to do such a beautifull red material ?

Only thing I could maybe critic is the weels, they seem to big (it would be hard to turn them don't you think?)

By the way, the raster rendering looks far better than the vector one in my opinion.

I'll be watching this closely... **** !

:wavey: hola!

Didou:
Thank you for c&C. Well, not everyone likes classic car, esp this one with global semi-classic design :p. Anyways, i like vintage classic stuff  . I shall give an enviroment to it once i finish the modeling and texturing work. Still got long way need to go through...sigh*
And for the wheel, ya your damn rite! I dun hav a car, and nvr thought of it at all. I plan to change the rim into 20" momo sport rim which can see the brake clippers :buttrock:

For the material,...it is just an ordinary blinn shader with env connection + a ramp specular color map, nothing great. Below is the connection of the shader:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v136/chenga/cgtalkWip/shaderWip.jpg

I would like to thank creators of mental ray. without it, it is impossible for me to achieve this reflective-like-standard cg render. So far, I only use FG without any lights. Mental Ray you r so cool! Personally, I prefer non-photoreal render, something like 2D illustration feel, like those interesting features offer by tomcat shader. Too bad, i can't afford it. I hope to finish this model asp, then i would to experiment on MR contour shader, for seeking the visual style that i wanted all this while.

Thank you.

Hey,
Thanks for the screenshot ! Even if I don't use the same software (3DSMax) I think I understand most of your process. I think I know what kind of aspect you are aiming for, makes me think about old "dick tracy" comix. For me this car is like finished... what do you have to model/texture ? The interior part maybe?

The front shape of the car with all those lights is so cool, you could produce greath shots with an increased perspective, a night scene and some fog to make this car alive !

Again, great great work !

PS : What references did you use ?

End of the day, some updates: resized the tyres, removed the back wheels archs and fixing topology of the back bumper.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v136/chenga/cgtalkWip/car_wip24.jpg

Didou: Hello. Well, im not really satisfy of what i had at the moment; the tyres need textures, and the model look too brand new, need little whether and aged touch on the surface and the back view of it. Do you u notice all my renders nvr shown back view :D, I havent complete the tailLights. I hav been working on it nearly a week with my own sweet times, and now I realized the design of this model is really lousy.....sigh*

Regarding the reference, none, just some random memory and images that collected in my head from the past through movies, magazines, comic etc. And that is main reason the design is poor, I should get a reference earlier.

Cheers.

Its been quite awhile that i didn't work on it. I hav added an engine for it; the engine is about 30% done. I hope could finish it by 2morrow.

Some little update; I almost done with the frontal engine. This engine is modeled base on the working concept of a turbine engine. Most of the parts r fictional, and I gonna install it into the car im working on. If things go smoothly, its gonna fly and say bye bye to the jam in the road :D

Hello. Below r another updates of my progress. I hav been trying to fit the engine and redesign the model (still working on it...). Finally, I got a name to call this thing- "shooting star". Although it may sound abit lousy, yet i like it coz I got inspiration from FLCL soundtrack, Riding On Shooting Star by The Pillow. I shall model a little buster to fly it once i finish it. Sigh*, there is still long way to go for finish it up.

Hey there, I see you're still busy at this car !

It's getting better and better, even if what i liked most on this was the overal shape of it. The details fit very well with the general style. I would maybe try to make the front shape wider and the back a little smaller so you could emphasize the power of the engine and make it look frightening (with all those lights/eyes looking at you). Anyway, I don't have any reel crits, I'd just like to see it finished :)

It is been a while for not updating this wip thread. I have been busy working on something else which is my butter and bread. Finally, I got sometime back to this little project of mine. At the moment, I hav built another engine system for it, which going to locate at the rear. I am going to cut the trunk open, and install this unit, as the exhaust for the heavy frontal turbine engine. It shall consist of 6 exhaust paip, and with some heatsink.

Didou: Hello! Thanks for the comments. I am going to input that in the next design stage. At the moment, I am still not happy with it. It lack of some focal point or point of interest. Maybe emphasize on the engine would help. Thanks.

MorganHahaha: Thanks. I am glad you like it.

Mikademius: Thanks.

Some little update of my "shooting-star". At the moment, I still playing around with the design of its outlook; I hav totally detached all the wheels, reshaped its size, and attach the new exhaust system to it. The exhaust design was inspired by the hakaider's motobike. (It is really cool!)

Below is some crappy concept sketch which reflects whats in my mind; Due to the newly installed exhaust system, it has occupied quite number of space, thus it barricades the door. If the door can't be open, how is my little buster gonna get in my operates it? I decided to "cut" it into two-half, then connect both of it with the hydraulic-pusher. From there, my little buster shall get on the seat more easier. I know this sort of design is really cliche, but at the moment, this is wat i could think of.

C&c r welcome :)

I have been keeping lots of wip stuffs in my hardrive; especially this one, and I felt guilty toward myself for not able to finish it due to a stupid crunch-time job. And, 2005 is going to be over soon! I hope can finish it b4 Christmas Eve which is about ten days from now.

I picked up of what I have left behind; I am working on the seat and some mechanism support which hold it. I haven’t finalized the design of the cushion yet, and I know it needs more work to get it more acceptable. And, for the mechanism parts, it acted out as a suspension\ stabilizer unit which try to reduce the turbulence impact on the pilot who gonna sit on top. It is also part of the backbone of this airship too. It serves as bridge which connecting the frontal engine and rear engine (an anti gravity device). At the moment, it is about 75% complete.

Again, it is open for some serious c&C.
Thanks.
