View Full Version : Battle Buggy
Ghostscape 04-18-2005, 11:05 PM This is a dune buggy based off of the UT2k4 scorpion, Halo Warthog, etc. style of off road vehicle. In the game it will have various weapons you can pick up for it. The cockpit and the pilot will be modelled later and the cockpit's texture will mostly be on a separate texture.
The texture is still a WIP, and so the entire undercarriage hasn't been touched, and it has very little of the dirt and wear I'm planning on adding to it, but would like some crits on it and any suggestions for improving the texture.

Also, I'm going to need 4 different colored versions, so here is an alternate color scheme mockup. The white rims obviously are a dirty, dirty hack :)

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Looking good so far, couple of things that spring to mind straight off:
Dirt/scratches etc tend not to be white. At the moment it looks a bit like its been driving thru snow, so maybe make them a dirty colour or if its scratches in the paint revealing the bare metal underneath then make it a grey or rusty (or both!).
With regard the colour scheme, see how the orange one looks way better becase your colours contrast more than the blue one. Blue and green are too similar tonally so the stripes don't stand out. Use a contrasting colour such as yellow on the blue to make it stand out.
Try out http://www.colorschemer.com/online.html for a colour scheme generator and get some contrast going!
Maybe add some photo reference for things like the lights etc too. A few 'real world' details like that can really make a difference. And since the buggy looks a bit sporty, try a big number stencil on it, that usually looks cool!

Updates:
I'm trying to figure out what else to add to this texture...I want to call it finished soon, but I'm not sure what else it could use:

No one has any feedback?

Looks good, colours are working better now right? Maybe some of the panels could be in a different shade of the base colour to break it up a bit. Don't add too many little details all over though, it might end up all cluttered. Better to have a few, good, solid details and be done with it.
