Title: Mechs At Vasquez
Name: Greg Desantis
Country: United States
Software: Cinema 4D PhotoShop
This is my first post. It's an original mech design. I tried to take realistic, modern tank technology and apply it to a Sci-Fi theme. The layout and overall look and feel of the render is inspired by the paintings on the cover of model kit boxes. and also by paintings of dinosaurs that I remember seeing in National Geographic, back in the 1990s. I spent about 80 hours modeling in C4D and about 8 hours compositing in PhotoShop. The background is a montage of photos I took at Vasquez Rocks, a park in Southern California.

I am usually not an machine maniac however the nicely positioned smoke and gunfire give this piece motion. Nice job paying attenion to the detail on the rocky texture as well~

Thanks - but I have to admit that the foreground rocks are just part of the photo I have compositied them into. By the way, I think your work is terrific. Gorgeous texturing and lighting.

Hey, I use Cinema also...
Any chance of a wireframe, and what techniques you used for modelling your mechs.
Thanks.

I mostly used box/subdiv modeling for this one. The mech is pretty detailed and comes in at 280,000 polygons. I'm just getting used to the chat/post environment. I've never used one before. But I may post a wireframe in the WIP section.

Very nice image! The realistic enviornment really does add that extra touch. It would be nice to see what they're fighting however. Also, the legs do bear an unignorable resemblance to the AT-ST's.
Nice action shot!

Wow, looks great!
I do see pretty big issues with the shadow of the dust and the mechs. The dust casts no shadow, and the shadow of the mechs is not cast on the dust at all, they just cut straight through the dust clouds and onto the ground with no dispersion at all.
I realize the dust was probably done in PhotoShop, but I picked it out right away. :)

Good call - You're absolutely right. I did paint a shadow on the ground for the really thick smoke - but I should probably have softly darkened the ground a bit under the dust as well.
