Pete Andrews has entered the Master and Servant 3D.

Challenge Page (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/masterandservant/view_entries.php?challenger=7478)

Latest Update: Concept Sketch: Quick (Read: Rushed) Concept

Here's a rough concept... Sketching isn't my strong suit, I prefer to work directly in 3D and image apps. Although many of the details are missing from this and some of the elements are subject to change, this should give an idea of a possible shot I'm looking for (or something similar).

This is going to be a tough one for me, hopefully I haven't started something that's too similar to anyone else's current challenge entry!

Concept sketches will be uploaded as soon as I can draw them, suffice to say that I have thought of several ideas ranging from benevolent passer-by aiding someone in trouble, to scenes much more malevolent. Finally I've decided upon the idea that many of us might have some experience with in real life... Specifically, the relationship between a man and a woman in a domestic violence scenario.

In this case, we have a man who believes he's the dominant controlling force, having the power to physically torture and inflict pain on his spouse. As is often the case in these situations, he believes that he's the master and that his partner is worthless and would never survive without him (that's often the means of maintaining their "relationship" and power so that they can continue their activities, and without going too much into a psychological analysis of such a person's history, it's normally entirely because the only way someone like that can feel any good about themselves at all is to make someone else feel that they are worth even less).

On the other side of the coin, we have the partner in the relationship. The woman in this case has had to endure this treatment once too often and has finally reached a point where she feels that the only thing she can do to stop this from going on is by finally standing up to him. Therefore, she becomes the master of the situation.

This one's likely to have a high emotional content, as is my intention, as is the case in any situation such as the one I'll be depicting here. The idea for the image is that it'll be in a darkened room, possibly with a very small level of detail (Not that it's true to life, but it adds to the atmosphere and I want to focus on the characters). The man in question had been towering above the woman, having struck her hard, but she is just getting to her feet with a determined look on her face.

How exactly I'll picture this is still fairly nebulous as I've still to do some concept sketches to go along with this. It's also a series of firsts for me... It's the first challenge I've ever entered (of any nature in any medium), it'll be my first attempt at modelling a male character, first at modelling clothing or hair, and my first serious attempt at rigging characters. The point for me is that I need to push the boat out and try things I've never undertaken before (I've modelled a female character only once before, and I've done a few heads, though nothing special) and I'm not doing this to win (after all, there are some fantastic modellers that have done characters and clothing etcetc long before I acquired my first 3D software, and they've entered the challenge too) but I am doing this to better my own skills, and I see entering a challenge as the next logical step for me.

I'll get on with some sketches... Hope y'all didn't fall asleep reading all that!

Yeah, unfortunately, I didn't really have any time to work on this challenge this time out, so I've had to withdraw. This is just a post to make it known that this is the case.

Hopefully however, I will be able to enter the next one, with the summer coming up and no coursework to worry about in the summer months, I should have a lot of free time on the next one!
