View Full Version : PA challenge - Character – BoBo
BoBo-the-seal 02-14-2002, 01:36 PM Well I couldn't let Hawkprey have all the fun so I decided to try my hand at this challenge. This is my preliminary rough that I will work into a painted concept and finally a character model.

My goal is to keep this character low enough poly that I can get him into Q3 once the competition is over. I'm shooting for an 1800-2000 polycount model with a 256x256 skin for the head, 512x512 for the body, and 256x256 for the tank on his back.
I will post my progress as I go.

Oh btw I finally got my website put together so feel free to take a look at some of the other things I have going.

Well I think I'm finished with the head. I will do a version with his goggles and breathing apparatus once I finish the base of the entire character.

Really impressive, but I think the ear is not in the good plan (doesn't fit exactly with the perspective)

Joe, I bet Bobbo will use this image to unwarp and apply it to the model as texture. I think it's the reason why the ear looks weard.
Well IMHO, don't know the young master secrets....
good painting job ,iam hurry to see the body
Even hair stubble!!!!....Damn, just reminded me i didnt shave this morning.
You painting this on a tablet or canvas? Just curious. I dont paint much aymore, but hopefully (for fun reasons) I'll someday be in a studio in that flesh's out ideas in paint again. Its a good release from the norm. Not that I dont love the tablet. lol

Very good illustration but watch out for the proportions. See how close the ear is to the face. That somehow disturbes the eye...
Really nice work overall though...

Heh, Soul from the #model_design irc channel told me about the ear last night. It was so late I thought I would put it off until today. I was working off of the concept above with the goggle and I misjudged their location. It will get it fixed soon. :)
Thanks all for the great feedback!

Damn bobo... it'd be awesome to see you screw up once in a while... wait.. lol.
People sometimes hate getting the bar raised. Lazy people too.. lol. I'm sure everyone here is struggling to catch up with you.. I know I am. lol. I spent two hours last night doing nothing but doodling.
Can't wait to see the guy in 3d! wait.. .what am I talking about? 2D! all 3 viewpoints that the contest requires.

Of all the BoBo the Seals I've known over the years, and there have been a few, You my friend are the coolest. I am starting to really like your stuff. Not that I didn't before...just now, I REALLY like it. I am interested in seeing how you resolve the hips and legs.

Lookin very good Bobo. I had a brief stint at Ritual and had a blast. I wanted to get into a little more high poly stuff (check my model in this deal, the count is gettin silly) but still had a great time while I was there. Say hi to Porter, Galloway, and Atkins for me.
Looking forward to more updates!
