View Full Version : Unreal
ScottyDoesntKnow 04-15-2005, 08:54 PM k here is the thing. I just bought Mastering Unreal Technology: The art of Level Design. It comes with the Unreal 2 demo. I download and everything works except when i got to chapter 3 it wanted me to make a room and add textures(that were on the cd). So i go to open some the textures and when i try a window pops up saying you cant use commercial textures cause its a demo then shuts the program down. SO why would they sell a book and have the program not work?http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/shrug.gif

ok. so lets see.
you bought mastering unreal technology so you can learn to make levels of your own.
you got an unreal 2 demo, which can only take you so far.( obviousely not far enough, according to you ).
you still want to make levels though. seeing as you made this thread to begin with.
so. the solution is to buy the actual unreal 2 game. or, unreal 2004 tournament, or wait for the next unreal game. up to you. every unreal game comes with the unreal editor. so you got plenty to choose from.
regardless which path you take its not like it costs an arm and a leg, so theres no real reason to complain.
i also noticed you made another thread about game engines. the only thing that paying 100k for the game engine will give you is the sdk, access to the entire website, technical assistance, and the ability to sell the game you will make. otherwise you can do pretty much everything you want ANYWAY by just buying the game and using the unreal editor that comes with every unreal game.

i think he means he has the unreal engine runtime 2 demo... but this isnt a demo its the full engine but only for home use
when u want to use textures, you have to impor them with ued from a hard drive

alright fair enough.
so now i have a question. whats the difference? i thought that once you had a legal license of the engine that youd get pretty much the same package to edit the data with, except with a number of extra features for running from within your own exes, and such? i always thought that they used this type of unified model to do business with?
or am i just confused here?
