View Full Version : How different is v.6 than v.7?

I am a complete novice in 3ds max, I practically haven't used it before, or any other 3d software. I have version 7, but I can't find any books about it that seem good, but I have found a book on version 6 that looks nice (visual quickstart guide).
So I need to know if the book would still be useful if I'm working with v.7. Is there a real difference between the two that might cause problems?

Not that drastic that a quickstart book for 6 would be useless:

the other book would still be useful. The major upgrades I can think of are the new turbosmooth (meshsmooth ++), the normal map/projection stuff, one or two mostly useless edit-poly tools, and the editable poly modifier.

None of these are things you're going to be using until you learn the basics of the program, so the version 6 book will still have some useful info in it.

That's it...? No changes in the interface or workflow?

Nope, nothing drastic anyway. Going up a version number doesn't mean big changes these days.
