View Full Version : Just a hand modeling attempt...
Lupin 02-14-2002, 11:47 AM I modeled a hand today and a tutorial (on my site in the tutorial section...) to go with it showing the steps I took to make it. It's modeled pretty much in one day, I'm just curious as to what people think. I can see a few problems with it but I'm bored of working on it... :) Anyhow, nothing to spectacular.

Hey, cool hand.
I must say, I think the underneath of the hand could do with a bit more work - it's not as detailed as the top - which, by the way, looks very nice. The wrinkle around the joint are really cool.
Do you not think that maybe the thumb is a tiny bit too long?

yeah, I think your right, it is to long. Thats something I can fix in no time at all. Thanks. The palm is actually fairly pronouced with the same amount of detail in it as the top half, my crappy render of it washed it out some though... :(
Thanks for your comments.

They're great, man. I think hands can convey a lot about a character, but most of the time they don't. These are supurb, though.

Good modelin all tho the thumb is too big and u haev the same problme I have.Take a look in the forum asn search for a theread that referes to hands. That's mine.
The problem was that the thumb wasn't rotated enough.

Good work.
I'd also say that palm of the hand need some more works and maybe the spaces between fingers are a bit too big.
Keep on.

Ok, well, addressed some of the points brought up, such as the thumb length (lessened it) and pronounced the creases in the palm some. I'm not sure if I should rotate the thumb some more, it's already at about a 45 degree angle.... I left the space between the fingers because I thought it was fine, I have spaces about that big on my fingers. (Hmm.. maybe I have wussy hands...). Thanks for your comments. They really helped. :)

um damn thanks alot! btw your demo reel is excellent! watched the whole thing and it covered everything will you make a short with the lil boy character ?

Yeah, the kids name is Milo, and I have a short for him written up. Hopefully it'll be finished this year (looking at around 4 minutes in length), I just need to keep at it. The storys pretty funny so I hope I don't give up on it.. heh. I have his sidekick modeled, but not textured or rigged, plus I still have another environment set to do for him and one more character. So, tonnes to do, just have to find the drive to finish. :) So much to do, I'm still adding to the reel and hopefully will have 3 more cool items to include within the next 2-3 weeks (then I can take out some of the stuff that really doesnt need to be in there, just fluff filler..heh heh). Thanks for the nice words. :)
