When I render instead of having a blue or black or any other color is it possible to have a transparent background?

Thanks.

I'm not intirly sure, however, inorder to be so, if I remember correctly, the file format must be a Gif. That's the most common one I know of anyway.

You can always set the background to a true blue of 255 and open it in photoshop, magic wand tool (UBER TOOL) and then proceed to make it Transparent.

BlazeSquall if you save your renderings as TGA (targa format) it will save an alpha channel in the image which can be used to remove the background of the image in Photoshop (look in the channels). But it only makes areas where there are no objects transparent.

However if you want to show shadows that are not cast on objects you can make a plane and give it a matt/shadow material which will allow the shadows to become part of the visable bits when the alpha channel is used to remove the background..

I hope this makes sence.

The post above gives much better depth than what I stated.

.Gif's are limited to 256 shades of color, so I highly suggest you use the idea stated above.

or do you mean rendering animation? cos if you do millions of colours+ (i think, it's been a while) then it embeds the alpha layer so when you put it into after effects of what ever its ready straight away

i think

works for both animations and stills
