Works for me.
Are you sure youre not tring to weld splines, because thet cant be done. Splines are one continuous line that cannot branch, they have only one beginning and one end.
If youre not trying to weld splines but something else, I think they may have changed the interface for target weld, but I cant remember.

If weld isn't working there's usually a reason so it 'd be best too describe what you're trying to weld. If you're using editable poly then often using collapse in a situation where you would normally use weld works. Anyone know enough to elucidate on what rules govern this? :)

i dont even think collapse is in max 5, 2 sides of a head im welding the seam but when i increase illiterations it splits again.
This never happened in 4 :(
Editable poly btw

You mean you weld the two halves together, and when you meshmooth it, they break apart again?

p.s. please explain your problem as clearly as possible....

Are you checking when you weld that the action is actually being performed by checking the vertex count? :)

I would suggest you to use the symmetry modifier instead...
Great for modeling heads and stuff

yea that stays the same but i dont know why it isnt welding ive moved the verts close together, tryed target and standard weld and increased target area. Max needs a weld and fise comand in one. THe thing is like I said this never happened in 4. Also im having alot of instances where max just shuts down with no error message for no aparent reason. Im funning it on xp pro but it should still be more stable than this. Crashing every 5 min really slows workflow.

okay i just found colapse(dont know how I missed it so many times :surprised ) but mabe im wrong here but symetry doesnt it do basicly the same thing as attach?

Does collapse work in this instance?
Are the vertices you are trying to weld free of any faces on a different axis other than the one in which you are trying to weld? (i.e it is not a vertex between two faces that are on different axis such as the corner of a cube or an extrusion)?
Attach is not the same as symmetry.. symmetry divides your model and allows you to do just the same as a mirrored instance without having to bother with attach. (still don't seem to be able to use it for morph targets though grrr! :D)

there right next to each other ie the center of two half heads but weld works fine. thanks for the info on symetry, is that new to max 5 or did I just miss it before?

It's new.. there were a couple of scripts before but I could never get them fully usable. :)
