Wait that news dates from April 8th. It's old news, and while possibly true it was in the hour-battle with MS' where both were trying to unveil their consoles just a few hours before the other. MS's recent announcement prevents any of this battle from continuing. MS is going to show their console first, contrarly to what the article says.

Is PS3 even coming out this year? I thought next fall. I don't think dev kits are even widely available yet.

I wonder how complete the PS3 system will be. It probably won't even be a final prototype, I'd guess. A PC with the cell processor is more likely, running some tech demos and accompanied by projected system performance numbers and clay mockups of the exterior.

The Xbox, while not a production version will have to at least be a final prototype and have a final exterior.

This is getting a bit silly..as neat as it is to see stuff early, I'd rather see something closer to the actual item. But wtf, if the tech demos are as cool as the PS2's, why not. :p

I think no matter what, Xbox will end up doing what they wanted to do by cramming their release out faster, which is steal some thunder..in the end will see if the year head start ends up being relevant or not though. The hardware specs never decided any other console battles before, doubt it'll be the case this time.

Penny Arcade had a good take on this (http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3?date=2005-04-13) today also..heh.
