Well, I hope this is the right place to ask. Didn't seem fitting for the General Discussions forum.

I'm a 3D artist currently putting together my first portfolio. I have some animation skills, but I'm primarily a 3D Modeler, and will soon begin searching for work pertaining to my modeling skills. I'm plan on getting into the gaming field.

My question is: What kind of portfolio would be best for showcasing modeling skills, in your opinion?

I ask because it doesn't quite seem appropriate to create a VHS reel showing stills, or even fly-by's of static models. I know what content to include in the portfolio (objects, scenes, characters of varying kinds displayed in various poses, etc.) but what would be the proper format. A CD? Web page? Printed media? There are plenty of companies that don'e even accept CD's.

Also, how much content might be considered not enough, or too much?

If anyone has had experience with a similar issue, what would you recommend?

Any answers or advice about this stuff would be greatly appreciated. Again, sorry if this is the wrong place to post this question : )

Thanks!

Website, do a Website...
A website is like a 24 hour advertisement for yourself, there easy to do, cheap to host and its one more skill you bring to the table.
Its really easy to e-mail a URL to a company, and its a lot cheaper then sending a VHS tape to all parts of the world.
Check out my buddies site, he does modeling, mostly character stuff and his site is a good example of what you might need.

Its clean, simple and easy to navigate.
Hope this helps!

If I were you I'd send out hard-copy printouts of some model renders along with your CV. That way you know they've seen your work as soon as they opened the envelope, without having to rely on them visiting a website or loading up a CD. That doesn't mean you shouldn't also put up a website or send out CDs of course.
