Title: Spider-man Vs. Venom
Name: Sean Skube

Just a test image for an animated fan short I'm working on. I wanted to see how it would look composited into a photograph.

This might be the look you're going for, but they look way too plasticy (not a real word) and really don't represent the characters properly. Where's Venom's tongue!? That's blasphemy there! It does integrate well though, and if you are doing it for low detail then it works out great, just add in Venom's tongue. You can't have Venom without his tongue.

no, no, his tongue is in there. It just doesn't show up very well in this pic. It's kinda coming toward camera, so it's hard tp see. I wouldn't forget his tongue, don't worry.

nice composition, but the porportion on spiderman is off, the head is way too big for the body and the deformation on the back on the knee is not very good, keep it up

Spiderman needs a more dynamic pose, something more extreme that fits his charactor

dARKCLOWN- Yeah, I wasn't actually planning on showing it really, but I liked the picture once I was done with it. If I'd known I'd be showing it I would have put him in a better pose. As it is, the pose he's in is partly to blame for him looking more childlike. I wasn't paying enough attention to his sillouette.

here's some of the other tests I've done. These were for animation.

I like the Venom drop down. The poses look very natural. In the spiderman climbing the wall, he just looks very computer animated, his poses seem kind of stiff, and I think that it would help the animation if you didn't have so much time between actions. I guess it looks like he's lining up his shot, but I don't like the long pause. You always see spider man as this "I already know what I'm going to do next" kind of character. Anyway. Also, when he turns to fire his web, only his torso and head move, and not his legs. His legs should move a little too, as he turns away from the wall. Something that I have found in my limited experience of character animation is that everything is always in motion when it comes to lifeforms, and every action somewhere on the body creates some kind of action everywhere else on the body. Just a couple things to keep in mind. And as mentioned, spidey's costume looks a little flat. All that being said, I really like what you're doing, and you're really not that far away from a really great looking animation.

blazer003 - Thanks. I was only doing these animations as tests for the character rigs to find potential problems. I was kinda making it up as I went along and didn't really think about the characters' thoughts and motivations as I was going, which obviously shows in the semi-robotic nature of the animation. I'm eager to get started on the short, but I can never seem to get enough time for it. Everytime I even think about getting started on it, more jobs comes my way. And since they are paying and I'm not independantly wealthy, I kinda have to take them. :)
