OK, who's going to tell me good workflow examples that make the most out of the edit poly modifier? What I mean is: I understand that it allows a 'history' system for modifications to a 'base mesh', but HOW and WHERE would I really get the most 'bang' out of this?

Lastly, one thing I did test and find highly peculiar is that I _thought_ the operations performed in the modifier would be INDEPENDENT (but constrained by) the base mesh. What I mean here is that I added two edit poly modifiers on top of a base mesh and did a bunch of extrude/bevel modifications. When I went to the base mesh and scaled it, SO DID THE EXTRUDE OPERATIONS. I fully expected that the operations would RETAIN their original values (ie. extrude distance, for instance) regardless of scale changes to the original mesh. This was NOT the case and I wonder if there is some setting I'm missing. If it's 'just the way it is', then I think this would be a good option, right?

Please confirm that I'm not totally whacked on this and I'd still love some workflow examples you can share!!

BUMP!

Does NOBODY use the modifier? Can somebody please check and verify that extrude operations do NOT maintain true 'history' as I explained in detail?

Thanks loads.

The scale is passed up the geometry pipeline, so values are relative.
Many noobs make this mistake with splines, then get loft problems.
Stack hstory (unless for riggin etc) is overated and incremental saves are always underated.

Thanks. I feared that was the answer and think, frankly, it's total crap. 8 What's the point of telling folks that edit poly maintains any real history when you can't make basic changes to the original mesh? GOD, Max needs construction history more than ANYTHING for R8.

Just as long as I can turn it off. Don't need anymore overhead.
