In the rollout which subdivision method do you use?

Classic
Quad Output
NURMS

anyone want to say why?

NURMS, because its better than the other two.....

I'll just start using NURMS I guess, unless someone can tell me otherwise.

It really depends on what you use it for and what results you want...

If you're modeling an organic mesh - NURMS is superior.

However classic is better if you want to make text with smoother corners, cause it lets you set the smoothnes and the amount (or what was it called).

I find quad output useless. It just messes the mesh up. And it never outputs the result that you predict... Atleast it's that way for me.

It's funny, one of the best character modelers I know, Bill Zahn, doesn't use Meshsmooth at all. Instead he uses a combination of Tesselate and Relax modifiers.

Does he have a website?

That name sounds familiar btw :hmm:

Dunno, but I found this http://www.raph.com/3dartists/artgallery/ag-ap349.html

Bill left Blur for ILM in mid 2001. He then went on to Tippett Studios and is now at ESC working on the Matrix sequels.

I'm beginning to think that there's a lot going for that method, or rather not using meshsmooth but creating your own subdivision whether by tesselate or using mesh tools / new usable cut tools. If you use mesh smooth you get more polys than you need at times and you always have to factor in what mesh smooth is gonna do to your vertex placements when placing them. One thing I've always found odd about 3D is people creating remarkably smooth models when doing characters.. in real life they ain't in the main...another reason I couldn't cope with Nurbs too well for say humans. :)

After trying it out I can definately see the merits of teselation. Xynaria it does allow for a more boxy looking smooth character instead of the meshsmooth version. Is this good for animating with though?

I don't use Meshsmooth either...
I got alot more control without Meshsmooth. And Meshsmooth allways creates alot of useless faces which slows the system down.
But MeshSmooth can be good on simple models.
I don't use Tesselate or Relax either.

What is the answer to the riddle Mikkel ? :)
