I'm doing a character in multiple passes right now and it seems like the shadows always show up, regardless if the shadow pass is turned off or not. I can render a shadow pass seperately fine, but when I render a color pass it still includes the shadows with it. The scene is being lit with an HDR image and rendered in MR with FG.

Update: I've tried testing out some things on even a simple scene and the color pass still doesn't seem to eliminate shadows. I know if I'm using actual lights I can just turn off shadows on them, but since I'm using an HDR image and FG I don't really have that option as far as I know. There's the option to just completely turn off raytracing, but it's not eliminating all shadows, and it's dropping my quality drastically. Does anyone happen to know of another way to physically turn off shadows when using MR, FG, and GI?

edit: I noticed I could turn off the receive and cast shadows on the objects' render stats. I'll see if this will work out.

edit 2: Nope, no luck with turning off receiving and casting shadows. It still shows up, which leads me to believe that it is just how FG works. It's almost like there really aren't shadows, and it's just different intensities of light and how they bounce. There's still gotta be a way to eliminate shadows or get the color pass to work though

The things that look similar to "shadows" are actually the occlusion that's a built-in, intrinsic part of FG (or GI.) If you want to make a character not contribute to FG, you can make it not visible in reflections.

Thanks Jeremy, I'll give that a shot tonight. BTW, excellent work on the lighting and rendering book.
