Hello, newbie here. I'd like to know what the process is, when working with green screen footage in which 3D will be composited to the background. For example like what they did with Babylon 5, Hypernauts and all those other LW shows.

Can it all be done in LW alone? How is the process, like do i import the footage as background image and do some chroma keying there or something? or do i have to key in another software and then import it into LW? or do i have to do the keying and the 3D in different packages and then composite them together? and if so, how would i have reference to the original footage as a guide while doing the 3D?

you'd use the footage only as a reference in lightwave... render your objects, then composite the two together in a compositing package like shake or after effects.

Thanks. What if i wanted to animate the position of the subject on the green screen?

What i have is footage of a guy sitting, against the green screen. The virtual camera is supposed to be moving to the right. What i want to do is to have him panning to the left, while a 3D glass window in front of him is also panning to the left but faster (since it's supposed to be right in front of the camera), and at the same time have a 3d background slowly panning to the left, behind him. What would be done in LW, and what would be done in AE?

the animating of the position of the green screen footage would be done in AE. if you want to do it before you bring it into LW so that you have a better reference it's up to you, it depends on the shot really.
