View Full Version : blend shape duplication problem
allanlee 09-30-2002, 10:20 PM hi every one, i need a little help
Im createing polygon blend shapes of my characters face. I have been modeling one side of the face and duplicateing it for the othe side. Now my problem is that lets say when i create the look of a surpriced eye on one side I would duplicate the half of the face in -x and combine, merge vertex to create the oppsite blend shape. But once i do this and try to crete a blend shape the polygons fall apart. What am i doing wrong.
Any advise greatly aprecaited Thanks in advance.

maybe you are using an instance and therefore get double deformation?
maybe killing history is a solution, too.

try this:
duplicate the half face as a copy, scale -x. Then make sure you freeze transformations. Combine the two, merge vertices and then conform the normals. Kill history and you should be ready to rock.
hope it works out

hi, if you combine, and merge the vertices, vertex order of shape is changed, So you cannot use blend shape. you need to reorder your vertices like in your original model... it was hard before... before a cool guy develop a plug-in for that... go here :
Reconstruct Mesh Tool v1.0 By Changmin Heo (http://www.highend3d.com/maya/plugins/?section=animation#1908) and it will solve your problem :)

I think what he meant was to combine/merge the face halves, delete history. Then, create the blendshapes.

you can't really duplicate the model and scale in -x
there is a script that will do that for you though.. it's in highend3d somewhere
check it out (I don't remember the name.. it's something like mirrorBlendshape or something)

What do you mean, goosh? Yes you can dupe a model and scale it in -X. What he meant, but didnt write correctly, was to change the scale (in X) from 1 to -1. That's all.

-X
thats what is causeing the problem is duplicating a fcae shape. I would duplicate and freeze transform but it still flipps to its orginal postion after when makeing the blen

yep.. you just can't duplicate an object, scale it in -x, freeze the transforamtions and whatnot and make the blendshape work... it still defaults to the original shape..
so if you have a face and you move the left eyebrow up, you can't duplicate, scale -x, freeze (so now it looks like the right eyebrow changed)
if you create a blendshape with a left and a right eyebrow, then you set 1 to the right blendshape, it'll move the left eyebrow, not the right..
try it
