Great stuff... your sketches are amazing... AMAAAAZZZING!!!
Can't wait to see you begin some colour on this one. Just a quick question: The two warrior guys on either side of the blood queen seem to be different in art style than the queen and the statues forming her throne (they don't look as 'natural' in line quality or proportions)... are the warriors meant to be real live creatures or just statues themselves? Just wondering...
I'd love to know more about the backstory for this piece too! Why is she the 'blood' queen... who are the warriors... why are they chained next to her... what do the carvings mean, etc, etc.
Awesome stuff thus far, and looking forward to seeing MORE!
Cheers!

She is a Queen of War, she likes warriors's fight. Young boys who want to become stronger and great fighters come from all over the country to see her. She possess the secret blood, with it you are transformed but your life is no longer yours, she possess you for ever. This is the first prize, after having given your life to her you have to pass the blood test, the blood is mortal and only the real warriors can survive to this test. The two giants warriors near her are her older servants, they drank 3 times the secret blood and they became the giants of war.

I made the young character in the of the queen bend his head to make him look more dominated.
The spear in my precedent sketch was too long and atracted too much attention so I decided to changed it into a sword.

bahh, I have seen better stuff from six year olds....:D
Soo, like, where is the color already?....:D
ok ok, seriously now, it's coming along very nicely dude! But, if I had one comment, (you are going to hate me for this) it would be that she is to close to ground level with her servants. Maybe you could cut and raise her platform, including the two large servants on either side, up a bit and then fill in the empty space. This would make the stairs that lead up to her have more steps... and hence create the feeling that she is above everyone and everything is beneath her. Otherwise, everything else looks great!!!
Keep it up!

It's looking greeat!!.. just that u need to be carefull as not to loose the focus. At the moment she is kinda faded into the background, rather the 2 giants on boths sides are the main highlight to me. Maybe after painting it further I could be wrong.  .
Of so many submission, yours is very interesting and different!

Really sweet looking so far. Considering the very ... Mayan? style of the architecture and clothing I'd almost expect some more vibrant colors. I can certainly understand why you aren't using them, but you might consider making the red of the cloth draped across her even more vibrant, and really making her gold gleam to help pull the focus to her. You've actually done this to a degree, but considering how small and recessed she is, you might consider going even more extreme. But maybe not, it might unbalance the image, I'm not sure. But regardless, it's looking really really great. Keep it up!

Hey this piece is awesome!
I can't believe i haven't seen it yet, but it's definately one of my favorites now. You've got an interesting concept, great sketches, linework and now colours.
You're working method seems to be close to mine as well so it's cool to see how you've developed this, especially what you've now done with the line art. It makes it so much more subtle, yet it's still tight.
Where are you at in Canada? Are you doing concept art? You should be with work like this. Cheers.

Very good, very detailed. Your big pic, however, looks too desaturated. Nothing wrong with that, but when it's desaturated that much it tends to lose the subtle hues of the light when it picks up colours by bouncing off other objects, which is why (IMO) your lighting looks slightly washed out. But it's still an amazing piece, very professionally done.
Oh, and the giants' arms holding the shields appear too short, especially the guy on the right.

Very meticulous piece! the lady (master) looks rather bland compared to her bodyguards. Are you planning to add to her assortment of jewelries or just like that? Her face and pose looks a bit too friendly for this supposely cruel scene.
I wonder why the bodyguards need to be chained up like dogs? If she is their queen and ruler, wouldn't they have served her dedicatedly all the same? Don't get me wrong, I am just wondering.
Will be looking forward to the final stage.

I was obbsessed with the Mayan Culture for about a year and a half. You r details are looking good. The skulls. Well I love skulls, it was the first thing I ever learned to draw. Your gliphs are looking good to. Did you just put some in there? Or do they have a certain meaning?
The only crit I have so far is the Gaint gaurds should have a bit of a stone look to them, but that is just what I think.

Yeah, I'd say there should be some spots of stronger colour on the center figure to draw attention back from the saturated colours in the bodyguards and to help make a focal point. Very nice work. I can't wait to see it finished.

Hey Rodrigue,
First time to this forum, and first time doing a challenge. Your image is friggin amazing. I absolutely love the sense of Aztec architecture. Coloring in amazing so far as well. All around great piece. Question though. When doing the line art, did you just use Photo Shop for that or some other program? You have some serious patience.

First of all, The color and all the details are great. I really like the idea, it's perfect for the challenge; I also like some elements like the blood, the tattoos and the skulls.
No critics keep going

Hi Rodrigue, I like very much all the details, but I miss more contrast in scene ... The color are too washed ... There is a great ilumination in scene, but it don´t appear because the low contrast ... Make more tests with these .. I sure will improve the colors ... Anyway Great work.

huh! this is something! a true masterpiece, with lots of detils and great technique. The only thing that I could suggest is, to strenghten colors a bit.. a bit more contrast to the overall pic... I think it will fit the theme u r dealing with. Good luck!

Hey, this has come out really well! Is it really the final one? :) Just kidding, there's nothing wrong with resubmitting final images as long as you have the time. And the changes have been good ones. Anyhow, the whole pice looks great, and a lot of good attention to nice details. And a really clear take on the theme too, which is good. Congrats for finishing!

Hey there! Wow, I see you have been busy:) Nice work Rodrigue! You got my vote:thumbsup:
Since you are still working on finalizing it hehe, how about some mist around the floor (mist or maybe dust) and some Stronger sun highlights (exspecially on all the mens skin)? Besides that, a lighter color might also be needed on her and all the skinny guys hair just to add that specular touch to give them life. Other then these minor things, everything else looks great dude!
If you are at work tomorrow morning at 8, see you there. I'll be in briefly:)

This is positively amazing. The queen on her throne is like a picture within a picture.
Only crit, and although it's more of a preference I hate mentioning this after it's too late to change anything, is the physique of the warriors. Native American warriors I've seen in photos don't have that sculpted look of a bodybuilder -- they've got lean muscle like you'd see on long distance runners. More of a preference thing. Who knows what they put in that magical sacrificial warrior blood these days. Anyway, the other characters appear to have more of the native look, and the queen looks spot on.
The level of detail you've achieved is phenomenal and your composition strongly captures the theme of the challenge. I can't stop looking at this picture.
