View Full Version : Dinosaur textureing
mastering3d 09-30-2002, 08:48 PM Just wondering what you gys & gals think the best way is to make Dinosaur skin. With all the digs and scars that they have all over them.As it would take for ever to paint all that detail. Was wondering if there was a faster way of going about it..Let me know how you do it or how you would go about doing it..

well... it depends what packages you're using, but if it's just photoshop, then you can use texture fills on different layers and fill right in. don't forget the spacing on the brush you use either, get a nice alpha'd scale and use good spacing, it can help. i'd also render out a few procedural textures and use them as bitmaps. take a few photos at your local zoo of the reptiles, and try to stretch out the skin a little in photoshop.
if you're using maya then you can probably paint in scar tissue pretty easily, as well as different scales. zbrush would also be pretty good at this i'm guessing. if you've got painter there's that image hose brush which can be good for this, and of course the paper texture if you m,ake a custom celular one.
you can of course make scales using the cell fulter in photoshop and a few edge finds and blurred layers... boog luck :)

another texture that works quite well on those creatures is bark, just something else to blend in there.
