View Full Version : getting started in chracter rigging and animation
underearth 04-09-2005, 02:06 PM hi there
i am doing my graduation in 3d graphics
i have recently switched over from max to maya (cause i have been advised that maya is having better animation tools and controls)
i wanna advice from pros that what sholud be the exact way for doing that
i mean should i first learn all the basic modelling tool and then create a animatable chracter
then learn rigging and then animation
or there is some other process
thx

If you want focus on rigging and animation find some predone models that have good geometry for animation and just start right away on rigging and animating. Focus most of your time on that. You will need to learn enough modeling tools to clean up geometry, but unless you think you will have to build your own models, Id focus on the rigging and animation.

If time is of an issue, and you already know how to rig and animate in Max, then I wouldn't bother switching to be quite honest. Maya is more powerful in these reguards, but it's also alot harder and doesn't have a nice built in character studio interface. Final rig is pretty good though for a free rigging tool but it's no character studio. Rigging and weighting in Maya is a real bitch to be honest, you will probably get farther with your project if you stay in Max instead of learning everything all over again from the very basics.

i got it(sorry for being to late)
but thing that matter to me the most is when i saw some awesome work on forums the high qulity detailed poly models i hold my breath back(and some times i go away and divert my mind to not to think of that highest quality work)
but my area of intrest is i love moving bodies they are kind of inviting me to play with them
so my question goes to PROs who are in studios or freelance
does the animators knows that high quality modeling texturing and rendering to get master out put
thx
