I know this is a question out of the blue, but does anybody know what software Bioware used to create the animations for their game Jade Empire?

I saw a glimpse of it on g4techtv's show "GameMakers" and it looked pretty cool, but I couldn't make out what it was. It had the look of a vastly more complicated Animanium.

We currently use puppetShop (v. 2.0, in-house software).
It is currently not publically available.

Thanks kees. I was afraid of it being a custom in-house application. Looks cool though.

If you don't mind another question, are you also using other custom tools to get 3D content into your game engine as part of your workflow, or are you using off-the-shelf apps (e.g. Maya, 3D Studio Max, SoftImage XSI, Lightwave, etc.)?

By the way, from what I've seen of it, your "Jade Empire" game rocks. :buttrock:

Our main 3d content creation tool is 3dsmax at the moment, from which we do all the exporting, but we use a whole bunch of other tools next to it. We have a few that are commercially available (Z-Brush, MotionBuilder, Deep-UV, etc.) and a few that are proprietary, either created in-house (I.e. level building tools for Jade Empire) or provided by 3rd party (i.e. unreal3 editor for one of our projects).

So really it's a mix of quite a few softwares, but in the end most of it goes through 3dsmax some way or another.

I'm glad you like Jade Empire so far, it was a great project to work on.

Is this the same puppetShop you offer to download for free way back in V5 a belief.

Now I know why you took it out from your website.
