an update already, and it took not more than 5 minutes! grreeaaat time improvements pabbloz :D
this is actually one of the finest cartoon models I have seen. there are alot of models that just got alot of details but this guy really got a "soul". totitch, you must be proud over pabbloz :)

hello guys! ... not... it's not a update... :D ... it's a bit reflexion...

I'm happy for all comments you are posting. And because I have a few minutes to write something.... I'm going to explain the tools and the way how I'm working, because I would like see the same in other great project and because Haldir asked me.

I use 3DMax 4.2 with meshtools. To render, I use Final Render. I have a PIII 350 Mhz with 256Mb Riva TnT2. Win2000.

I use the Asset Browser to open in a window the design you can see in the first page of this thread, and I start to model looking the design. I put a camera the most similar as in the sketch and when I build the character, I try to keep the proportions looking the viewport-camera. But it's very difficult because 2D hasn't a real perspective.
I use very simple materials to simulate the main colors. I'm not sure if I'll do better textures, I'm quite happy with the colors.
The blood in the bandages are a procedural textures (stucco in max).

I don't want do very large the message, so I'll wait for questions or comments-critics to continue with my reflexion :D :D

That is just ace!!! Excellent modelling there. I'm really looking forward to the final. I too think it looks good enough with plain textures although you could paint in some shades at the creases.

Very Nice. I really like the gorgamorg arm, very nasty lookin'.

And I agree with you guys about the colors. The simple colors lend themselves very well to the cartoon like model.

I also(especially) liked the blood on the bandages...very simple yet effective.

Hasch2o: To do the bandagges I used Loft in max with shape (circle) and path (rect line). Then I converted it in editable poly and add meshmooth (1) and FFD 3x3x3 to move the vertices with a soft selection. I think it's easy but if you need more help, tell me!

for fur why don't you try with shag hair in geometry mod.

or with the new version of final render :) they say that shag is working better(normal mod) with this new update.i don't try it for that moment but i will.....:D
the problem is maybe too precise fur will denaturate the toon style.

Come on man, you are nearly done!
Very nice from the sketch (congrats Totitch! =) ), to the final model. The head does fit perfectly althought in my opinion it was the more compromising part of the character. Btw, Agree on the small eyes but sure it's a minor fix. Personal replays:
Totitch: I followed your advices. I scale the right hand and the eyes. For the environment I tried a photo...:( I'm not very good in photoshop. And the fire is classic mesh, as you say, still in progress. And about the name... mm. I'm not sure to put "him" a variation of my name,...
fellah: I don't like your jokes!! :mad: :D. I hope not deceptionate you. ;)

About the update:

okok... I know the render is quite strange, but it's a test. For now it's the unique render I have where you can see the updates. I would like know if you like this illumination.
The fire of the "turbo" is very wip yet, I have to add smoke, and more detailled flame (and integrate more in the scene :D)
I have to put fog in the scene and add glow or light in the green liquid.
And I haven't forgot the sticks in the turbo!! I haven't enougth time :)
There is another motor behind the machine... I'll do it for the next update.

There is some wrongs sizes in some parts... but I will fix them, I have to put in render fast to can post today this update.

Anyway, I would like you say me the things that you think are better in the skecth or the things that are better in the render. For example, the turbo now is small. but maybe it's better or maybe not. you choose!

Excellent model, very faithful to the concept except for one thing. The feet in the concept are long and pointy while the ones on your model are shorter and end very bluntly. Fix that and it'll be perfect, good work. My favorite so far.

Firstly pabbloz this is an incredible model, excellently executed and very close to the original sketch :)

I think the pink thing is meant to bwe a creature that started growing on his hand, but it really doesn't look taht good, maybe you can change the texturing
You could try making it a little transparent, translucent and wet... better yet slimy.. I think slimy would do it with something drippping off it.. :)

i've look at your model and as i remembered the character template published for the monthly challenge, i thought that your character don't respect anyone but the "special king of footwear". and "special protective clothing".
but, after some close examination, i realize that he probably wear lense as "eyeprotection", that the pink blobby think at the end of his left arm is probably a "protective mask" and that he is the most lethal weapon in his mind and soul... :-)

hobbes: I'm doing a better flame, I hope.
About the feet and how much close I want do it, I would like it was very close to the sketch, because I love it, but there are parts or things that are very hard or impossible and other that maybe are better (in 3D) with other shape. I try to do the best for the scene :)
I don't understand what does "fine" mean. what do you refer with bump about? :confused:
