I know this is something rediculous, but, i really believe that this forum has enough talent , Wiro, Pascal, Stippen and Ligh to name only a few who poped in my mind, to actually write a kick ass book on a single project from start to finish.
It could be divided into sections or volumes and really focus on things like modelling, texturing, rigging, lighting, animating and compositing.
Pitty everyone is so busy, but the knowledge is here.
As far as max 5 books, i have seen any yet but damn interested to see what people are writing about.

You know, publishers have a way of dumbing down book content to the lowest common denominator (which makes business sense). I've worked on several books and while I think it's a rewarding experience to help the community, it comes with some major sacrifices. First off, you rarely have the control to make exactly the content or focus you want. Second, it takes a tremendous amount of time to write a book, let alone a few chapters. For one book in particular I wrote nearly 100 pages and in total it probably took me over 200 hours. In the end I think I was compensated roughly $2/hour. So it's tough to justify at times.
Kim Lee admirably tried to make "Inside MAX 4" a production oriented book, but even that was hit pretty hard in editing and dumbed down quite a bit. Another thing to consider is that real production work is just too complex and full of plenty of intangibles that writing about it in detail is just impossible.
